Our last game of the winter season and it was pleasing to get a win
Rex's block 4-0 down after 2 ends then scored a 5 on end 3 and never looked back as they won all but 2 of the following ends,with some excellent bowls played by all.
Tony's block had a tussle swapping the lead and drawing with the last end to play but could not get the win we all were hoping for.
Maurice's block having dropped a 5 on the 3rd end clawed their way back to be 9-7 down on the 8th end then won the rest to emerge winners
Bob's block slow to start 5-2 down after 4 ends then won all but the last to win, albeit aided by some hard luck that Joe had, playing the right shots but not getting the result he wanted.

The first half gave us a good start both blocks leading all the time,Maurice's block lost a bit of momentum allowing Council to come back within 1 shot but retained 2 singles on the last two ends. The ladies on mat 2 played extremely well although they slipped a little on end 7 dropping a 5 then rallied taking 6 shots over the next 3 ends.
Rex's block could't find a way to stop Geoff scoring and did well to keep the scores down. Bob's block hit the ground running scoring a maximum on the 1st end and were 15 - 0 up after 3 ends Council then started to find line and length and restricted the scoring to just 6 more shots.

The first half got off to a slow start with neither block getting to grips with the mats but changes in the playing order brought a fight back and we were only 10 shots down at half time.
2nd half blocks came out fighting and were steadily eroding rail's lead, Maurice's block seemed to do no wrong as they surged into a commanding lead, Rex's block kept things tight and in control.
The game was halted as Bert Ross was taken ill with chest pains and as a precaution an ambulance was called, when the game resumed P.Johnson stood in for Bert.
We wish Bert a full and speedy recovery

Bob's triple had a good game,after losing the first 3 ends hit back scoring 8 over the next 3 ends and then kept control only losing 2 more ends.Tony's triple leading 8-3 at 7 ends saw the opposition change skips and it changed the game, scoring 9 over the next 3 ends, a chance for a four on the last end to win was on but Tony's wood just ran wide and only 2 scored
Rex's triple were outplayed and did well on occasions to limit the opposition to 1 shot. Maurices triple 8-1 down after 6 ends and 10-2 donw after 9 ends took the last 3 ends, scoring a 5 on the last end to earn a draw

Maurices's block were10-0 up after 6 ends which prompted the opposition to change skips, and they then scored 8 over the next 4 ends to reduce the lead to just 2 shots with 2 to go, a single scored on each of the last 2 ends for Maurice kept the win.
Rex's block 7-2 down after 5 ends saw a change as Bob went lead and Ralph to number 2 and it worked as the opposition only scored once more, a single on end 8.
Gordon's block struggled on mat 1 and at 5-0 down Gordon changed the block and Tony went skip and they reduced the shots and with only 1 shot down with an end to play,we had hopes of a win,but it was not to be.
Bob's block always led and with great bowls by Colin and Lesley all he had to do was consolidate and with a couple of conversion shots made sure of the win.

A good win away from home, 18 shots up after the 1st half with great bowls plyed by Rex's and Maurice's blocks, we thought a 14-0 win was on the cards, but it very nearly went wrong as after 10 ends in the 2nd half we were only 3 shots up and it then looked like Felthorpe could snatch a 8-6 victory, a 3 on end 11 fron Bob's triple and a 1 and a 2 scored on Tony's triples last 2 ends made sure of the win.

For some reason we never do well at this venue and today was no exception
First half on mat 1 saw a tight game up to end 6 where we led 5-4 then a dropped 3 followed by a 5 on ends 7 and 8 proved to be the game winner for Costessey. On mat 2 we were always behind and a change of skips on end 7 prompted a fight back as we scored 8 shots to their 2 over the last 5 ends but it was not enough as the damage was done earlier. After the break on mat 1 5-4 up after 7 ends then Costessey stepped up a gear and shut us out as we never scored again. On mat 2 the tightest of all games in a low scoring encounter,where Janet led well,considering she doesn't play as much these days, 7-7 after 9 ends 8-8 after 11 ends only to be denied by 1 shot on the last end.

After a good 1st half,With Rex's block winning well and Maurice's getting the draw, we looked to consolodate and win at least one more game to take the advantage for the 2nd leg, and it looked like we would do it as both games were tight. Tony's block led 6-5 at 8 ends but ten Horsford shut them out and they never scored again. Bob's block swopped the lead up to end 11 where the score was 11 all, but over the last 4 ends they only scored 3 to Horsfords 10

Our last game in the City league this year we were glad to come away with a win. The 1st half blocks did well and we were 14 shots up at the break. unfortunatly the 2nd half did not go our way as both blocks were up after 6 ends but then could not find a way to get the shots required and were relieved to keep the shots lost down so that we won overall.

A good win at home, Rex's block took the first two ends to go 3 up but then dropped 6 shots on the next two ends, then with Betty leading very well and Bob playing good covering shots and Rex consolodating took control and got a deserved win.
Tony's block played consistantly throughout,never losing the lead, and with Ralph leading well shut the opposition out. 6 shots up at half time Maurice & Bob's blocks knew they still had to play well to ensure the win and they did so, both winning 7 ends apiece.

A great win away from home. Maurice's block always in controll with John leading well and George and Maurice consolodating and converting shots gave us a small lead at half time.Rex's block played well but struggled against an in form block.
Lesley's block always in control lead at half way 8-2 but then dropped a 6 on end 7, this however did not deter them and they only conceded 1 more shot as they ran out winners by 6 shots
Bob's block had a tight game against George's never more than 4 shots in front, always mindful that given the chance George would take advantage,tried to keep woods in the head and cover the back and with a little bit of luck we came through to win

Betty Cox, George Munford and Maurice Kemp lost 10-3, 7-5 and 6-1. Maureen Munford Gordon Crowe and Tony Gray won 7-0 and lost 4-3. Ralph Wilson, Bob Patterson and Rex Cox lost 11-0, 5-4 and drew 5-5.Colin Coman, Elaine Oatway and Bob Oatway won 6-5 and 11-3.
We had hope that a great last session was on the cards but Mark for Wymondham had other ideas as he had a great last bowl to get 3 shots and earn a draw which was enough to see them through.
Overall a good performance against a strong Breckland league side, albeit missing a couple of key players. Get well soon Debs

A rather surreal outing for Bob and Elaine as this is their other club and at any other time would be supporting them. First half was shared and we came out on top albeit by just 2 shots. On mat 1 the game was tight up to the 8th end where a 5 was scored to put us 4 shots up 3 shots dropped over the next 2 ends then 7 shots to us on the next 3 saw the game fairly safe with 2 ends to play,which were shared 2 shots each. Mat 2 after scoring 2 on the 1st we only scored on the 7th,11th,12th and 14th ends with Connaught playing excellent shots from all 3 players we were always behind. After the break on mat 1 we could not stop the onslaught although only conceding 1's and 2's a dropped 5 on end 12 put the game out of contention. On mat 2 our hopes were kept alive as we were 7-0 up after 5 ends but then came Connaughts fight back and although we scored a 3 on end 10 to go back in the lead by 2 shots we could not score again untill the last end where we took a consolation 1 shot.

After the euphoria of the Thorpe Marriott win we are back to the bread and butter games of the city league and the team did not disappoint as they played the mats well to get a good win.The first half were always in control playing excellent shots to deny the visitors any chance of a win. After the break Maurice's triple again always in control earned a well deserved win. On mat 2 however a different story evolved, finding themselves 7-0 down after 3 ends from some excellent bowls played by the opposition, they eventually found line and length and only dropped one more shot as they completed the unanimous victory.

Having won 6-2 away we were in commanding lead as we only had to win on 2 mats or 1 mat and keep the shots lost below 22 to get the overall win. The first half saw tight games withTony's block always in the lead and with both sides playing good woods it was with some relief that they came away with a win. Rex's block never far behind had a surge on ends 10 to 12 to lead 9-8 but then could not score over the last 3 ends. The second half was a total contrast as Maurice's block were well and truly beaten,8-0 down after 4 ends prompted a change and with Lesley at skip rallied and scored 4 over 2 ends but then Thorpe Marriott stepped up a couple of gears and, with Tony at skip taking out woods with precision, were condemmed to a heavy loss. On mat 2 it started badly dropping 5 shots in the first 2 ends and Thorpe Marriott must have thought they were in with a chance to earn a win overall but we then scored 5 over the next 3 ends and the the game was back on, always keeping an eye on what was happening on the other mat and mindfull that the shots were getting close some excellent bowls were played by all to ensure the win.

Great start to the Shield everyone played well need to keep the momentum going next Monday at home for the 2nd leg
Rex's block dropped a 5 on the 1st end then found line and length to take control and get a deserved win losing only 3 more shots throughout the game, Tony's block always in control apart from end 7 where they dropped a 4 which saw the scores at 6-6 then taking 7 of the remaining 8 ends. Maurice's block had the tightest of all the games 8-8 after13 ends but just could not get in on the last 2 ends, with 1 no scoring end they each won 7 ends. Bob's block 2 down on 1st end then took control, a 5 on end 8 making the score 11-4 then winning 4 of the 7 ends remaining only losing 3 end sby 11 shot each.

Just like the last match 3 games were close and 1 runaway, but this time the results went our way
Everyone played well and supported each other as some excellent shots were played
Maurice's triple did well to shut out their opposition and only conceded 1 shot on the last end, Tony's triple led throughout by 1 or 2 picking up 3 shots on the last to ends to make sure of the win. Rex's triple again always ahead scoring 6-3 over the last 4 ends. Bob's triple lost 3 on the 1st end hit back with a 4 on the 2nd then had a tight game conceding some shots to fall behind by a couple of shots before winning ends 9 to 11 by 3 shots to go into last end 2 up. Robin's first wood moved the jack away from our bowls to hold 3, Bob deliberated for a time as to what shot to play, considered a forcing shot on the forehand but opted for a drawing shot on the backhand to cut down the shots and managed to get 3rd wood and if it stayed got a draw , which would have been a fair result considering how well all six players had played.Robin also deliberated for a time as to what shot to play and opted for a slighlty over draw to move our wood away and get 3 for a win, unfortunatly he was slightly under and moved our wood into 2nd place

With 3 games very close and all scoring on the penultimate end it looked like we could take some points at home to a very determined opposition but alas it was not to be as all 3 lost the last end.

In the return match we won 71-44 on shots. 4 triples playing 1 game each of 15 ends.

In our usual pre season friendly against Bradwell we won away 97-91 on shots, 4 triples each playing 3 games of 9 ends.
Ralph,Betty Cox and Maurice won 2 lost 1, 13-1,7-6,4-9,Janet,Elaine and Rex (with Colin swapping with the ladies) lost 2 won 1,13-2,5-6,8-9,George Maureen and Tony won 1 lost 1 and drew 1,9-9,5-13,10-6 Betty Patterson,Bob Patterson and Bob Oatway won 1 and lost 2 10-3,7,13,6-14.
A good result to kick off the season need to keep it up at home to Bradwell on the 19th and it will boost confidence for the City league games to come.
