This expansive archipelago was discovered relatively recently, as a trader exploring south was blown far off course after getting caught in a Manastorm. Half of the crew was lost to the hazards of the storm and a shore party was ruthlessly hunted down by the islands natives. The trader found his way back to civilization with 2 other survivors to replenish his forces and supplies, and returned with a shore party of marines armed with the latest firearms. The marines suffered heavy casualties but inflicted worse ones, before an enterprising sailor was able to initiate contact with the native Lizardfolk on his own and reach a peace. That treaty afforded the foreigners one city on the large island of Mahuizoh, or Mahu as it is more commonly called, and peace would be maintained on every corner of the island, under penalty of death or dismemberment. That city, Huemac, has grown to a respectable size, nowhere near the metropolis of Dragonbridge or St. Benton (let alone Tretaria), but larger than any single lizardfolk settlement.
The lizardfolk, or Teotl as they call themselves, have little of material or mineral wealth to trade. What they have, however, are the innate immunities and ancient traditions that allow them to capture the incredibly fast and deadly raptors. Once word got out of the giant lizard-like predators, every noble with a few coins to rub together had to come see the monstrous beasts in person. A few that were able to afford it purchased themselves one of the already tamed monsters, and attempted to ship them home. Most of them underestimated the beasts intelligence and died trying to get it home alive. One ship even drifted to port, where the monster killed a dozen more people before being put down. Now, the trade of live Raptors is strictly controlled, creating an entirely new economy in the Desh Isles: racing. Most wealthy people own at least one racing raptor, and since they are banned from being imported, hundreds regularly flock to the Isles to watch and bet on the races.
Perhaps even more noteworthy, the Desh Isles don't suffer from Manastorms. The Teotl, when asked about this odd behavior, simply explain that the Isles have forever remained the same. During Manastorms, the Teotl experience simple rainfall, with no other odd behaviors. Those studying this island phenomenon note that it affects all islands in the archipelago, and that Manastorms are not visible from the islands despite their immense size. Current theories posit that there is some kind of Precursor work at play, something protecting the islands from the Storms, but nothing concrete has yet been found.
