"Be sure never to make too many alterations to the body when creating a Forged. The soul needs to be fooled into thinking it is in a regular body, otherwise there are.... abnormalities. One such horse... I designed it with no mouth or throat, per the request of someone who wanted a silent creation, and even though it needs no food, it lost its' mind almost immediately as it struggled to find something to eat. Eventually, the poor beast starved. Or, at least, it believed it did. The soul left the body, and I was left with a rusting hunk of scrap and an unhappy client. Not to mention the guilt at tormenting the poor creature like that... Anyway, modifications don't go well. Always make sure the form is as close to natural as you can make it."
-Hieronymous Bronzeboot, famed artificer, to one of his numerous apprentices
Saddles: Same price as PHB saddles, no changes are needed.
Barding: Same price as PHB, typically unnecessary however.
Secure Storage (50g): Includes a lock/key mechanism, for an additional 50g the compartment can be modified to magically lock and only respond to the Owner.
Arcanium Batteries (5g): Generally last about a week with regular usage. Produced in large enough quantities and recyclable enough to be fairly affordable.
Forged horses are created as other Forged are: a body is crafted, a soul is acquired and transferred, and the creation is checked for abnormalities and sold. Forged horses are expensive to acquire and maintain, but many find the added bonuses to be quite worth the price.
Forged horses don't need internal organs, so the room that is not taken by servos or magical capacitors can be filled with equipment or valuables. Typically, there is one main compartment located in the chest, accessible through a hatch on the horses "ribs". The hatch can be designed to only open for the Master, or have a simple lock and key mechanism. Some have had their mounts custom-made with lots of smaller spaces for smuggling or hiding valuables in dangerous territory. Some have tried to add additions such as wings or additional legs for strength, but every single time the limbs go unused and dangle uselessly. All Forged horses have a natural armor due to their metal construction. All Forged horses use the same stats as their living counterparts, except as stated below.
Forging non-intelligent beings seems to cause some loss in mental faculties along the way. Forged horses, as a result, are less prone to independent thought, making them almost perfectly obedient. The soul inhabiting the body still has the identity of a horse, so it will still graze (the resulting foodstuffs are processed into cylinders and evacuated, so the horse will quite literally poop undigested food, since it cannot be used for fuel) and respond to rider commands. The downside to this behavior modification is that the horse has little sense of self-preservation, so will not flee from danger unless commanded. The horse does not require food for physical function, but it will require a regular Arcanium crystal swap every week or so, much like a battery. Most have multiple crystals in place so that they can go several weeks without a change. Intense usage will drain the batteries faster, but the week-long rating is based around typical 8 hours of traveling a day.
Once purchased, the creator will spend a day with the buyer, removing himself as the Master and attuning the horse to the Buyer. Some skilled artificers can do it faster, typically for an additional fee. Once bonded, the horse will only follow your commands and will buck off anyone else who tries to ride it, unless you specifically state otherwise, in which case the horse will respond exactly as you command from then on. If an attuned owner dies, the horse will generally wait around for a day, at which point the attunement will expire and the horse will begin wandering. The next person the horse encounters it will follow around and attune to for a day, and respond to that Masters will and commands afterwards.
AC: All Forged horses have an AC of 15, but can be upgraded for the price listed to the left.
Additional Mods: There are additional features you can purchase, listed to the left.
