The Green Team identifies actions and practices that FCC members and the church as a whole can embrace to care for God's creation. Current activities include participation in Focus on Energy's Practical Energy Management program, tracking energy use with the Energy Star Portfolio Manager, coordinating FCC Adopt-a-Highway volunteers, and caring for FCC's pollinator gardens. Past efforts include supporting efforts to improve our building energy efficiency, leading a transition-to-sustainable fellowship hour and running recycling programs.
All the people of FCC deserve thanks for supporting efforts to make our building more energy efficient. By the installation of solar panels in 2018, replacing many light bulbs with LED bulbs as rooms were remodeled from 2018 to 2021, and replacing one of its aging natural gas boilers with a high-efficiency boiler in 2022, FCC lowered its energy use, which saved money and protected the environment.
In January 2024, Interfaith Power & Light certified FCC as a Cool Congregation, reducing its carbon footprint by 20%. Watch the following video to learn more about FCC's solar panels.
