-District posts misleading, disingenuous Q&A on website.
What's NOT in their Q&A: If you take a minute to read it over, you will be angered and dismayed that our employer presents such a misleading and disingenuous case to the public. Nowhere in their FAQ do they mention that they are asking you to pay for their share of the STRS increase which equates to an ongoing decline in your overall pay. In addition, on page 3, they present their offer in a combined percentage - making it seem like their offer is the best out of the others listed. On top of all that, they present their total offer as if it is ongoing - which it is NOT. And nowhere in there does it mention that they are asking our counselors to work up to 30 extra days, including nights and weekends. They state it is one of the best offers in the county, yet don't give information on where we rank now. It does not give us a credit for the years of sacrifice and pay cuts we took to help them when state funds were low - we have not forgotten. Do NOT be misled.
- February 29th - 1st meeting with State-appointed mediator, teachers picket District Office
Update from our team:
On Monday, February 29th, we spent most of the day explaining to the mediator the details of our proposal. The mediator made it his goal to understand both parties' proposals. ESTA explained that the details the district is presenting are seen differently in ESTA's point of view. This consumed a large portion of the day. ESTA informed the mediator that our members are fed up with the district's unwillingness to participate in negotiations. The team is disappointed that more could not be accomplished - no money issues were discussed, but rather language and calendar issues. Another meeting between both parties and the mediator has been tentatively set for March 11th.

The ESTA Bargaining Team met on May 30th with the District to discuss initial proposals for the contract year 2015-2016 from both sides. Items that were discussed included the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), the May revision of the 15/16 CA budget, and the presented proposals. We remain cautiously optimistic moving forward and will be in continued communication to schedule our next session once both sides have gathered additional information.
ESTA will present its initial proposal to the EUHSD School Board in April. A sunshine proposal will let the district know which contract articles we plan on opening up or specifically look at. There are no specifics included in sunshine proposals; those get ironed out once negotiations actually begin. Once submitted, the District will have 30 days to look it over and present their initial proposal. Once the sunshine proposals have been exchanged, collective bargaining or negotiations can begin.
