Project Description:

The Hanson Batch Plant Access Road is located about 44 miles Southeast of Phoenix, and 4 miles Northeast of Coolidge. Previously, the only way to access Hanson’s Coolidge Plant was by way of a primitive dirt road. Heavy truck traffic created dust and visibility issues during the dry season and during the wet seasons the road often became impassable. The newly constructed road allows Hanson’s vehicles to deliver their product from the plant safely and quickly in any weather conditions.

In order to construct the project, Entellus Construction Services assisted Hanson in contracting and managing earth-moving contractors. Contractors moved nearly 19,000 cubic yards of soil and built a new aggregate base. The new base measured 2 feet deep and covered the entire 1.5 miles of the project. After establishing the base for the roadway Entellus Construction Services LLC coordinated with paving contractors on behalf of Hanson to bring in over 7,300 tons of asphalt to pave the road. Due to the magnitude of materials being placed on the job, the unit costs of these materials were a concern for the project budget. Entellus Construction Services LLC helped organize an agreement between Hanson and the trade contractors to have Hanson supply the materials for the project. This arrangement saved Hanson money by reducing the haul cost and eliminating markup placed on material otherwise supplied by the general contractor. Using this arrangement, HANSON SAVED OVER $73,000!

In addition to the roadway, this project also featured about 1,000 feet of irrigation pipeline along with turnout structures and irrigation ditches within the San Carlos Irrigation District’s right-of-way. The San Carlos Irrigation district is the water distribution authority for the San Carlos Indian Reservation. ECS LLLC obtained permitting from the district and arranged to have district inspectors on site to approve the work during construction.
