The Phoenix Empire descended from the Thule empire, and subsequently split into into many modern countries, such as Rhokotis, Dusland, and Schanderna.History
The Phoenix Empire was passed to Barrow by his father, Thule. The Mother of Storms herself placed the great Dragon standard in his hands.
Barrow received the Phoenix as his symbol, and ruled from the city of Rhakotis. Doleman received the Dragon as his symbol, and he ruled from Charystos. Cairne received the Griffon as his symbol, and he ruled from Fort Resolute.
The brothers fought against each other, each Emperor unable to defeat the others.
The Phoenix empire had one ruling dynasty for her entire existence. The Phoenix would move between Emperor and heir, and so succession was kept reliable, if uncertain, for the Phoenix was rarely predictable. Any member of the royal line might become Emperor or Empress, no matter how far the relation. To that end, the imperial line sought to keep children to a minimum and marriages as closely related as possible.
With the Great Library in its capital, the Phoenix Empire saw the rise of every new religion and philosophy, those religions and philosophies often challenging the very existence of the Empire. Her undoing came at the hands of the Transgressors, who did their best to undermine anything that looked like power. In their wake came the Psychotic Assembly, and their war with the empire nearly destroyed it.
Modernity
It was Sambatu from Rendland who finally seized the city and sacrificed the Phoenix Emperor on his own altar. The Sambatu Dynasty now believe that he rules from heaven, and follow his dictates through the mouths of epileptics.
