Griffin Empire
About
The Griffin Empire descended from the Thule Empire. It has subsequently collapsed into a myriad of kingdoms and powers.History
The Griffin Empire was passed to Cairn by his father, Thule. The Mother of Storms herself placed the great Griffin standard in his hands.
Cairne received the Griffon as his symbol, and he ruled from Fort Resolute. Doleman received the Dragon as his symbol, and he ruled from Charystos. Barrow received the Phoenix as his symbol, and ruled from the city of Rhakotis.
The Griffin Empire was the least settled and most challenging of all the empires. Cairn began his rule in Fort Resolute, but immediately began work on a new capital: Fera Nea. His desire was to build the most beautiful city in the entire world which would act as a hub of civilization.
Against that dream was war. The three sons of Thule fought each other for control of their father's empire.
In theory, the Griffin empire was the weakest of the empires. She neither had the population city of Charyastos and her fine cavalry, nor did she have Rhakotis and the Great Library. However, she did have the dwarves and Jura City, challenging terrain, and an indigenous population of highly self-reliant peoples. Time and again, Charyastos and Rhakotis learned that grabbing Griffin territory was no easy task, and keeping it was even harder.
Modernity
The very forces that kept the Griffin Empire whole are the forces that tore her apart. The Empire descended into frequent and bitter civil wars, while the Emperor made futile bids to restore control. Eventually, the imperial line was killed and a pretenders to the empire swapped the throne.
The appearance of the first Bloodletter, Samael, doomed the empire. His Therion servants, part beast and part man, emerged from the mountains and the forests and banded together into the Feral Nation. They made war upon the empire, and eventually sacked and burned Fera Nea. The empire is gone, but for those who remember it. There have been several attempts to restore it, but with no viable claimant to the throne, most view the dream as pointless.
