MT16 Week 4

Post date: Oct 26, 2016 9:45:50 AM

This week, by request, we'll have a read over a recent paper on scalar implicature that focuses on the mental representation of scales themselves: De Carvalho, A., Reboul, A., Van Der Henst, J. B., Cheylus, A., & Nazir, T. (2016). Scalar Implicatures: The psychological reality of scales. Frontiers in Psychology. There's an interesting connection between the underlying question this paper is addressing, and some pilot work I presented last year: Husband, E.M. (2015) Inhibition in the computation of scalar implicature. Poster given at the 28th CUNY Human Sentence Processing Conference, Los Angeles, CA. The poster from that conference can be found here.
