Flappy Leaf Tree

Overview:

The Flappy Leaf Tree grows from a spiral root base and provides food for herbivores and propagates by producing fruit that have the ability to travel with the aid of gravity and the interaction of Avatars.

Food:

The Flappy Leaf Tree provides food for herbivores.

The root is not edible by any of the current creatures but has a limited life span, varying from 4 up to 20 hours.

The usual sprouting cycle is 9 minutes and this guarantees a lot of food for tree leaf eating creatures.

Behaviour:

The root sprouts a number of large flapping leaves.

It also produces fruit.

When the fruits fall to the ground, they may grow new root, thus reproduction takes place.

Reproduction:

The branch offers EWG tree leaf food (standard 1)

The fruit, born on tree branches, will fall to the ground once they ripen and have the chance to spawn a new tree root. New root spawning is ruled by lag conditions in the sim. Fruit offer EWG fruit food (standard 1) and have little energy. Fruit spawning can occurs by interaction with Avatars. If a tree branch is touched by an avatar, it will spawn a fruit.

Evolutionary theory aspects:

This organisms is a mix between a tree and a colony, in fact each branch is able to survive on it's own and the death of an inner branch doesn't affect the life of the external ones bounded to the dead inner branch.

Development history:

Tree behaviour hasn't changed, but there are some alternative bodies for this organism.

Future developments:

From a developer perspective the tree has reached a mature state and won't be changed any further, but when it's exposed to highly dynamics evolution conditions, it can acquire new interesting behaviours.
