  • Master Graveson Dorn, the leather goods craftsman from the Upper Slums makes a weekly run to Old Gilfer's Tannery. He should be carrying enough coin to purchase a weeks worth of skins. One or two guards, no more… (it was more than two guards)

  • Tor McFearson of the Cup & Whistle tavern in Evermeet uses devil magic

  • Devil magic was used in a recent mugging (ours?)

  • Mr Rex is angry at whomever jacked the trader (us)

August 3 427 DF Saturday

  • Aria comes home from having spent the previous night at her parents house with a split lip and a black eye

  • Aria, Katya, and Will (+ who else?) knock out a stumbling drunk who has too much coin and a big mouth. We get 36 coppers each (that's 426 copper split between 13 gang members?)

August 11 427 DF - Sunday

    • Party plans attack on Merchant and attacks merchant; merchant has five well armed guards (not two), is carrying 50 gold (not a few)

    • Party is stopped and questioned by guard

    • Katya gives 1 GP to each gang member, hides rest in rafters

    • Aria tries to talk to Katya about healing

    • Will talks to his Mom about his powers

    • Will gets a job at his family's old bar, working Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mornings

    • Aria goes to work and gets a moderate haul of kitchen scraps

August 12 427 DF - Monday

  • Aria and Berhanu look for metal bits and scout out forges

  • Will gets a job hears some rumors

  • Katya follows Rowf and listens to rumors

  • Evening discussion on killing Margda; Katya asks Tabor to go see what Margda may know

  • Aria demonstrates her healing ability, attributes it to Ayl, Katya is fine if Ayl is on our side

August 13 427 DF - Tuesday

  • Katya goes out to find leatherworker for armour adjustment (2 days, 1 GP paid up front)

  • Katya returns to find Rowf out (?), searches for Rowf, cannot find him

  • Party goes to Evermeet to check out the Cup & Whistle and the rumours of Devil Magic

  • Will sees a Ghost Face Killer on the rooftops on way to Evermeet

  • Aria sees melons, marvels at them, Katya gives GP to Aria, Boy pickpockets Aria, Will catches Boy, Katya muscles in, Boy returns coin, Aria treats unapologetic (Wait! We're suppose to apologize to the people we mug? We better go apologize to Master Dorn.) Boy to a melon

  • Party buys new threads as disguises

  • Party enters Cup & Whistle, is surprised by the experience: clean and happy (in the afternoon), no demon magic seen, tasty fried pickles

  • Party sees Ghost Face Killer on rooftops on way back to Flatjack’s

  • Party is attacked by the Hounds with their hounds; it is different from other encounters, as they have intent to kill (and the dogs do too)

  • Aria manifests healing, outlining people in a silvery glow, and setting them on fire (Katya yells “You too?”), Will continues to make people’s heads bleed, Katya displays fine weapon work murderous efficiency [At-Wills and Encounters now available to everyone | Not action points yet]

  • Party beats hasty circuitous path back to Flatjacks

  • Discussion about what just happened, Katya asks whom else has special gifts (nearly everyone)

  • Katya lays down a choice: “Things are going to get very heavy, very fast. We can run or we can stand. You need to choose if you want to stand. If you do, you have to stand fully and completely and committedly – stand tall and fight.”

  • A number of the gang members, who have not yet been seen or noticed by the outside forces, choose to leave to set up a second "encampment" elsewhere to stay out of the oncoming heat.

  • Min Han, grinning at the gang who still remain, gets from his trunk a bunch of red bandanas.

  • Aria suggests, saying her patience is at an end, that we should strike at the Hounds hard, now, to not give them time to regroup and to send them a message to leave us alone. A conversation ensues, and the group agrees.

  • Nearly the full party heads out to the Hounds' home base, located not terribly far from Flatjack's. Bardeen scouts ahead, to find out how many of the Hounds are at home, to avoid us being overwhelmed.

  • Bardeen blows it, gets the alarm raised and gets chased.

  • Combat ensues against many mutts, strong dogs, gang members and one very strong dude who hits very hard. Much special effects on display, between Will (most subtle), Aria, and Sedora (least subtle).

  • Near the end of the fight, a figure drops from the rooftops above and crashes to the ground. They are wearing part of a Ghost Face Killers mask.

  • As the hounds and their hounds are put down, attention turns to the GFK person. An argument breaks out between Katya and Aria about what to do. Attention, already drawn to the fight from the fireworks, grows at the sound of shouting.

  • Katya drags the unconscious GFK inside and locks it in a cage; Aria joins the GFK in the cage. Will and Bardeen bring in the bodies. Katya presses for time. The GFK awakens, and draws stick figures on the ground, and pantomimes a bit. No one knows what to make of it.

  • With guards fast approaching, the party beats a very hasty path out of the Hound's stable, through the main quarters, and out into the streets -- except for Aria, who remains with the GFK in the cage. Guards burst in.

  • Aria has a conversation with the city watch and attempts to bluff her (and the GFK) way out of the situation, claiming innocence. The guard has none of that, and "arrests" Aria and the GFK.

  • The rest of the party head away. Will notices a shadowy figure on the rooftops. Katya looks and sees the figure, but alerts it to her gaze/notice and it ducks out of sight. Figuring the party is being followed, they use the moment to ditch bloody clothing and dive into a bagel shop to hide for a bit. Mmm, bagels.

  • After a bit, rest of party returns to Flat Jack's and convene with Min Han and Berhanu. Min Han and Katya, after donning a hasty disguise, head back out to the Hounds' place.

  • Mage Hunters and Knights of Ayl are at the Hounds' place, investigating things. BAD NEWS. Min Han and Katya hang around for about half an hour, but don't see anything of Aria.

  • Heading away, Katya sees a GFK on the roof... who doesn't notice her, but then takes off like a bat out of hell. Katya's confusion grows even more as a cloaked figure, leaping 20' across the street from rooftop to rooftop (!), chases after the GFK.

  • Min hand and Katya head around the stockade, but don't get any sense of anything regarding Aria. They head back to Flatjack's.

  • Wil goes to visit his mother, to ask if she has any idea about how to find friends taken by the city guard. She recommends Frederick Barkus, a contact from her earlier days who had information on the goings on of the guards east of the wall.

  • Wil travels to a particular bar and finds Frederick, mentions he's the son of Lady Buxom, which gives him cred. He has a conversation with Fred, who agrees to help because of his mother, but he still asks for payment (in information from Wil, to be delivered over time). He also notes that the Hounds were the Family's newest recruits (!). Says to come back to see him tomorrow.

  • Aria and the GFK are in a cell in the stockade.

August 14 427 DF - Wednesday

    • Katya heads out early and swings by the stockade. There she finds five church guards, and soon thereafter a Mage Hunter and Knight of Ayl walk out, speak to the guards, and they depart. Katya follows them, and they go to the tower at the centre of Evermeet.

    • Katya heads towards the arena, but realizes along the way that none of the trainers or quartermasters she knows really have any connection or contact with the city guard. However, there are guards who come to watch the fights, so she passes by the Arena with thoughts of returning later to strke up conversations with them.

    • Katya visits some of Rowf's haunts to try to find him (and she really wants to talk to him too); she does not find him, and, disturbingly, none of the folk around his haunts have seen him in a couple of days either. This worries Katya greatly.

    • Katya returns to Flatjacks' and she and Wil go to see Frederick at the same bar. He asks about the magic having been used; we mention that Aria has indeed used magic, though only recently. He tells us that the girls have spoken to a Mage Hunter and Knight, and are supposed to lead the church guards to where the magic users live (ie, us). Through further conversation, we learn the layout of the stockade, and ask a number of questions.

    • Katya also asks about the house west of the wall where she lived -- Frederick didn't know about it but offered to find out for a small fee.

    • As we get ready to depart, Frederick says this is beyond his normal range, and we notice he too is leaving his spot of business, which reinforces our dread about now being mucked in with Mage Hunters and Knights.

    • Wil and Katya return to Flatjacks with intent to vacate; everyone packs up their main belongings (and the gold is retrieved) and we all travel to take up residence in some hovels by the south wall.

    • Bardeen goes to stake out the stockade more. He goes up to the front door and inquires about joining the guard, which gets him a view of the inside and also the cells, including one (nearest the door) that likely contains Aria and, apparently, the other girl.

    • Team devises a plan and puts it into motion; Min Han sits this one out (likely pantomiming "you are all crazy!")

      • Bardeen hops to stockade rooftop from nearby building, pries up a roof shake, and drops in a flaming bundle of pitch -- and is seen by the guards within. He goes and drops a second bundle in a different room, this one not occupied. He then nearly, nearly, and actually falls off the roof (but rolls the landing for no damage and rolls upright)

      • Katya, Sedora, and Wil are hanging out by the well nearby, ready to be part of the water brigade to put out the fire. At first, a huge gaggle of guards simply exit the building, including carrying the first of the flaming bundles. They spread out to look for the assailant; Bardeen manages to bluff his way out by rummaging through junk in the alley.

      • Aria and GFK surreptitiously untie themselves and stand up near the bars of their cage (one other prisonnner is yelling a lot)

      • Eventually, the second bundle catches things on fire, and the guards still within notice; most of the guards return in, and the captain yells at Katya, Wil, and Sedora to form part of the bucket brigade to bring in water. They do so, and this gets Wil inside.

      • Katya grabs four buckets and barges in, claiming to help more, and grudgingly the captain lets her be inside too.

      • Aria and GFK pick the lock with a piece of hardened straw (!) and, with their best timing, run out of the stockade building and into the street; the captain yells and three of the guards persue. Katya and Sedora and Wil continue to buicket water

      • Bardeen goes with the girls, chased very close behind by the guards. Crowds and dumping things behind them does not let them pull away, and they guards pull up next to them. Scribbles (GFK) punches one out in one shot, and combat is joined. It is a tough fight, but we are victorious (not without Bardeen going down, but being healed by Aria's gifts of Ayl).

    • Katya goes to pick up her armour.

    • We are all aiming to reconvene at the hovel.

    • Bardeen, Aria, and Scribbles take a brief moment for Aria to change clothes and to cut her hair for a disguise.

    • Katya stops and grabs her armour, and her and Will and Sedora go to the hovel. Katya changes into her armour and puts loose clothing on over, puts her hair in the clothing and puts on the red bandana as a disguise.

    • Aria, Bardeen and Scribbles arrive at the hovel. Scribbles and Berhanu greet each other and pantomime.

    • Aria apologizes to Katya. Katya suggests the crew meet up at an abandoned building to continue the conversation unheard.

    • At the abandoned building, the party catches up and clears the air (as much as can be done). Aria takes a nap. Party notices increasing guard activity outside, that continues to increase. A choice is made to vacate the building as a safer option than staying and hoping a full search is not made. Felina goes out the top and disappears along the roof, while Berhanu walks out (he's not known to the guard, so...)

    • Will and Aria are the next go go, followed by Bardeen and Min Han, and Katya and Sedora last, all headed towards Evermeet, with intent to move to the upper slums.

    • As Katya and Sedora are approaching Evermeet, Katya's name is shouted out -- it's Rowf! (!!!) (!) (!!!)

    • Katya glomps Rowf

    • Rowf looks well, and in fact looks better than he has in a while, out of his funk. He fills in Katya with what he's heard on the street -- it really is as bad as Katya feared with the church, and even the Family, really out to get them. And it's likely to grow.

    • Rowf had been intending on scouting outside the city to find a place to bring Katya and their mother to start a life outside the city, but now, with this heat, he's figuring Katya ought to be the one to head out. Katya agrees. The idea is to set up a homestead, send for Rowf and the rest of the gang (the whole gang -- Rex, Tabor, etc). Katya gives Rowf five gold to help support him and gather up all that's needed for the eventual departure (and taking care of mom).

    • The party meet up. More conversation.

      • Katya tells Rowf about the trench coat fedora hat roof jumper attacking the Ghost Faced Killer -- Rowf says it is Samien Took, the Family's real power... not the leader, but their top enforcer

      • There are two roads out of here, north east and south east. At the end of the north east road is Cloud Keep, a bastion of the Knights of Ayl

        • These knights are perhaps different in their temperament than the ones in the city -- they're the ones who went out to fight the demons, while the less capable ones stayed in town. Quite possible that the ones in town are more corrupt/soft/etc, so....

      • The closest town along the north east road is called Haven

    • The party chooses to leave, via the docks for a less conspicuous exit. They find Rex, he finds them a boat. They pay three gold for quiet secret passage out.

    • Late at night, on this the fourth day since their world truly upended, Katya, Sedora, Wil, Aria, Berhanu, Felina (?), Min Han(?), and Bardeen step off the boat and onto land, their first steps outside of the city. As a warm wind blows, the party looks on, confident, ready to set out into the wider world.
