Paul's Online Math Notes - Calculus II
Announcements (Updated 5/30)
The Final Exam is scheduled as follows:
MC4U/1 (normally meets Period 1): Wed 6/6 Periods 3 & 4 (10:50 AM - 12:35 PM), Room 630
MC4U/4 (normally meets Period 4): Wed 6/6 Periods 6 & 7 (1:35 PM - 3:20 PM), Room 630
There will be an optional problem session to prepare for the Final Exam on Monday 6/4 at 3:30PM in Room 632. We will also review in class on Tuesday 6/5.
Please be prepared to hand-in and/or present at the board HW 8.6 in class on Thusday 5/31. Also, please bring in any problems or questions you may have to prepare for Test 5.
Test 5 will cover textbook sections 8.4-8.6. You will also be expected to be proficient in all the mathematics you have learned from first grade up to and including the previous Test, particularly textbook section 8.1-8.3.
Period 1 Test Date Fri 6/1
Period 4 Test Date Fri 6/1
Test 4 Solutions and Statistics are posted.
Test 4 will cover textbook sections 6.4, 8.1, 8.2, & 8.3 (excluding the material on estimating the sum of a series, which we are skipping). You will also be expected to be proficient in all the mathematics you have learned from first grade up to and including the previous Test.
Period 1 Test Date Thu 5/17
Period 4 Test Date Thu 5/17
There will be a Make-Up Point Quiz sometime before Test 4. The exact date will not be announced in advance. The quiz will be given during the first 15 minutes of class. Late arrivals will not be given extra time, and no make-up quizzes will be given without a doctor's note or equivalent documentation of justified absence. The Quiz will consist of three problems selected (verbatim) from Tests 2 and 3. There will be no partial credit - each problem will be awarded either 0 or 10 points, so the only possible scores on the quiz are 0, 10, 20, or 30. In order to receive 10 points on a problem, you will need to use proper mathematical notation, show appropriate and sufficient algebraic work, and get the correct answer. These points will be added directly to the sum of your Test scores after dropping your lowest Test, so if you receive 30 points on the Quiz and we have 5 Tests total, your Test average would be raised by 7.5 points.
Test 3 Solutions and Statistics are posted.
Test 3 will cover textbook sections 5.10, 6.1, 6.2, & 6.3 (and related parametric curve material in sections 1.7 & 3.5). You will also be expected to be proficient in all the mathematics you have learned from first grade up to and including textbook section 5.7. (We skipped sections 5.8 and 5.9.)
Period 1 Test Date Tue 4/24
Period 4 Test Date Tue 4/24
Test 2 Solutions and Statistics are posted.
Test 2 will cover textbook sections 5.5, 5.6, & 5.7, as well as the material on even/odd and hyperbolic functions. You will also be expected to be proficient in all the mathematics you have learned from first grade up to and including textbook section 5.4.
Period 1 Test Date Fri 3/16
Period 4 Test Date Mon 3/19
Test 1 Solutions and Statistics are posted.
If you received a score of less than 50 on Test 1 you are required to make an appointment with me after studying the solutions to Test 1 but prior to Test 2. If you fail to make this appointment it will be reflected in your mid-term grade and narrative.
There will be an optional problem session to prepare for the Test 1 on Thu 2/16 at 3:30PM in Room 632.
Test 1 will cover textbook sections 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, & 5.4. You will also be expected to be proficient with the methods of Calculus I (textbook chapters 1-4).
Period 1 Test Date Fri 2/17
Period 4 Test Date Fri 2/17
Reference Pages 5 & 6 in the back of the textbook may be useful as a review. You should be intimately familiar with Page 5 Formulas 1-21 and Page 6 Formulas 2-11.
Welcome to Calculus II.
