Announcements (Updated 1/13)
The Final Exam will be Thu 1/22 12:40 PM - 2:25 PM (Periods 5 & 6) in Room 716.
There will be an optional Review Session for the Final Exam held on Tue 1/20 at 3:30 PM in Room 718. Please bring any homework and/or old exam problems that you would like to discuss.
Solutions for Exam 3 are posted below.
There will not be any more Quizzes.
Exam 3 will be on Thursday 1/8 and will cover Homework 3.6, 3.7, 3.8. 4.2a, 4.2b, 4.3, 4.6, & 4.5a. You will also be expected to be proficient in all the mathematics you have learned from first grade up through and including Exam 2. In particular, you will be expected to be familiar with the basic properties of trigonometric and exponential functions and their inverses.
Solutions and Statistics for Exam 2 are posted below.
The Tuesday Period 1 Recitation Section is permanently cancelled due to lack of attendance. If your mid-term grade was C+ or lower you are required to attend either the Tuesday Period 7 or the Thursday Period 2 Recitation Section every week. If you cannot attend one week, you are required to let me know in advance.
The next Quiz will not be until Friday 12/12.
Exam 2 will be on Thursday 12/4 and will cover textbook sections 2.9 through 3.5, and the portion of section 2.8 covered by HW 2.8B. You will also be expected to be proficient in all the mathematics you have learned from first grade up through and including Exam 1. In particular, you will be expected to be familiar with the basic properties of trigonometric and exponential functions and their inverses.
You should begin studying for Exam 2 now by working through old Exams. For Fall 2013, look for relevant problems on Exam 2, and for earlier semesters, look for relevant problems primarily on Exam 3 and Exam 4 (corrected).
Student-led Recitation Sections will begin this Thursday 11/13 Period 2 and continue the following Tuesday 11/18 Period 1 and Period 7, all in Room 624. Attending at least once a week is mandatory if your mid-term grade is C+ or lower; please see me if you are unsure. Everyone is welcome to attend, and if your mid-term grade is B+ or higher, you may count your attendance as Peer Tutoring time.
The Quiz this week will be on Thursday 11/13 (since neither class meets on Friday) and will cover the Product & Quotient Rules (Section 3.2).
Solutions and Statistics for Exam 1 are posted below.
You are not responsible for problems on the old Exams involving the second derivative f''(x) or vertical tangent lines. We have not covered these topics yet.
There will be an Exam 1 Review Session run by Ishtiaq Hassan Wednesday 10/22 after school in Room 718. Please bring any remaining questions or problems you may have to class on Thursday 10/23.
Exam 1 will be on Friday 10/24 and will cover textbook sections 2.2 through 2.7, and the portion of section 2.8 covered by HW 2.8A. You will also be expected to be proficient in all the mathematics you have learned from first grade up to and including Pre-Calculus. In particular, you will be expected to be familiar with the basic properties of trigonometric and exponential functions and their inverses.
You should begin studying for Exam 1 now by working through old Exams. For Fall 2013, look at Exam 1 only, but for earlier semesters, look at both Exam 1 and the relevant problems on Exam 2.
If your average on the first three Quizzes is less than 5, I strongly advise you to make an appointment with me ASAP.
My Daily Schedule is now posted above under Resources.
Welcome to Calculus I.
In order to enroll in Calculus I, you must have either (1) received a grade of B- of better in Pre-Calculus, (2) passed Pre-Calculus and received a grade of C- or better in Foundations of Applied Math, or (3) have obtained explicit permission of the instructor. If you do not meet requirement (1) or (2) you must meet with me and obtain permission on or before Monday 9/15, or you will be automatically withdrawn from this course.
If you struggled in Pre-Calculus & Applied Math (for example, received a C in both classes), it is strongly recommended that you meet with me as early in the semester as possible to make a plan to ensure your success in Calculus I.
Homework (Updated 1/13)
Some assigned textbook problems have a "calculator graphing" component. That part of the problem (only) is optional; the rest of the problem is required.
This is all of the remaining Homework.
