Christian was baptized on 27 Mar 1803 in Kinderhook, Columbia, New York, USA at the Reformed Dutch Church. He moved with his parents and other Loyalists to Stanbridge, Missisquoi, Quebec, Canada. Christian was a farmer there, while his wife Hannah resided in St. Armand before their marriage. Both belonged to the Anglican Church there. His brother James and her sister Elisabeth acted as witnesses to their marriage in 1828. Christian and Hannah had no issue (or no surviving issue). His brothers (John and James) acted as witnesses to his burial on 17 Sep 1831 in an unnamed cemetery (perhaps the Ploss Cemetery in Beford?). After Christian's death in 1831, Hannah married her former sister-in-law Cathright's widower, Peter Primmerman on 06 Feb 1833 in Philipsburg. They had no issue. Peter and Hannah are both buried in the Ploss Cemetery in Bedford, Missisquoi, Quebec, Canada.
James Jacob3 McDonald (Jacob2, Collin1) was born on 01 Jun 1806 in Missisquoi County, Quebec, Canada. He died on 19 Jul 1878 in Franklin, Franklin, Vermont, USA. He married Louisa M. Carr, daughter of Peleg Carr and Rebecca Rogers, about 1840. Louisa was born on 07 Jul 1808 in Huntsburgh (now Franklin), Franklin, Vermont, USA. She died on 09 Nov 1882 in Franklin, Franklin, Vermont, USA.
With Louisa M. Carr, he had the following children:

James was the only one of his McDonald siblings born in Canada. His father died shortly after his birth. James was baptized on 21 Dec 1806 in Stanbridge, Brome-Missisquoi, Quebec, Canada. James acted as witness at his brother Christian’s marriage in 1828. James was still in Canada in June 1833 when his brother Benjamin's daughter Charity was baptized, James was named the godfather and his half-sister Hannah the godmother. Sometime thereafter he immigrated to Vermont, USA. By Aug 1840, he and Louisa had married and were living in Franklin, Franklin, Vermont, USA. Louisa had been born in the same town (called Huntsburgh before 1817 when the name was changed). She had an older sister, Loena, for whom she named her only daughter.
James eventually bought his own farm, located in District No. 6 of Franklin, just a little ways west of the school house where his daughter Loena attended in the 1850s. James died at the age of 72, leaving his estate to his widow. Afterwards, Louisa moved in with her sister’s second daughter Mrs. (Loena) Rebecca (Shedd) Gates. She died at the age of 74 as a result of paralysis. James and Louisa were buried in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Franklin, Franklin, Vermont, USA. Both of their headstones have fallen over.
Oddly, in the 1860 Federal Census, three other McDonalds appear with James and his wife: James (15), Lucretia (13) and William (11). All three children were listed as born in Vermont and having attended school. In 1850, only their daughter Loena (9) is listed as in their household, no younger siblings or other relatives. The names and ages of children do not match any known nieces or nephews of either James or Louisa, which includes James’s half-siblings’ children. If they were children of James and Louisa, they all must have died before James as his estate went to his widow.
Loena S.4 McDonald (James3, Jacob2, Collin1) was born on 15 Dec 1840 in Franklin County, Vermont, USA. She died on 09 Oct 1865 in Franklin County, Vermont, USA. She married Lucian G. Towne about 1864. Lucian was born on 21 Aug 1836 in Vermont, USA. He died on 25 Jul 1905 in Creston, Union, Iowa, USA.

Loena was named for her mother’s older sister, the wife of Zachariah Shedd. Her middle name may possibly be Sarah. She grew up on her father’s farm in Franklin, Franklin, Vermont, USA. She died as a result of complications three days after giving birth to her only daughter. Loena was 24y 9m 24dys old. She was buried on October 12, 1865 in the Old Cemetery in Franklin Center, now the Maple Grove Cemetery in Franklin, Vermont.
Before their marriage, Lucian served in the 1st regiment Co. B of the Vermont Calvary, enlisting first on 21 Nov 1861 and again on 28 Dec 1863. He was captured on 29 Jun 1864 in Stony Brooke, Sussex, Virginia, USA and held at the Andersonville Prison in Georgia. He was released when the prison closed in May 1865. He was promoted to corporeal on 15 May 1865, no doubt as a result of the atrocities he suffered while in prison (13,000 of 45,000 prisoners died while there). He mustered out on 21 Jun 1865. Lucian returned home and took up the profession of farmer. He remarried after Loena’s death to Harriett E. Perry in 1868, and with whom he had the following children: George L. (1869-1912), Albert H. (1873-1942), Edward (1876-1959), Harry (1879-1951, twin) & Herbert (1879-1946, twin), Isabella (1881-1969), Walter (1884-1955), William (1887-1965) and Helen (1891-1891). He and his family moved to Creston, Union, Iowa, USA after 1876 but before 1879. He and Harriett are buried in the Graceland Cemetery in Creston in Section D, Lot 865, graves 6 & 7.
Loena Jane5 Towne (Loena4, James3, Jacob2, Collin1) was born on 06 Oct 1865 in Franklin County, Vermont, USA. She died on 26 Feb 1930 in Creston, Union, Iowa, USA. She married John F. Whittemore on 07 Apr 1901 in Lake County, Indiana, USA. John was born in Sep 1859 in England. He died on 30 Sep 1934 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, USA.
Loena is not located with her father in 1880 nor her maternal grandmother. In 1900 she pops up in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA as a housemaid in the employe of Alfred G. Gibson at 200 Winchester Ave. Her future husband was renting a room at 540 W. Van Buren St., while working as a laborer in a dairy. According to the census, he immigrated in 1869. On 10 Apr 1896 he married Alvinia Dierick, who died in 1899. Five years later, Loena and John would marry in the same place as he and his first wife. In 1920, they lived at 464 Vincennes Ave. in Chicago. Her half-brother Walter lived with them; John and Walter both worked for the Borden Company. Perhaps sometime in the late 20s they moved to Los Angeles for Loena’s health. She died in Los Angeles in early 1930.
Her ashes are located between the graves of her father and step-mother Harriett in the Graceland Cemetery in Creston. His burial location is unknown, perhaps with his first wife?
