Manitowoc River
Paintings created along the Manitowoc River by David A. Sear
I like the vantage point along this part of the Manitowoc that features the diagonal snaking of the river which forms the basis of this painting. The tree stands along the river is one of the primary juxtapositions of the composition. Within the tree stands, there usually is a a live group and a dormant group, reflecting the duality of life and death. The light that infuses the paintings is indicative of an important artistic concern of mine: the theme of supernatural, or spiritual presence.

The square-root-of -2 rectangle format
stacks two Golden Sections on top of each other.
Golden Triangle shapes occur as an extension
of these proportions. I use this mapping
as a grid in the composition.
