Day 2
For Next Time
Finish the Data Exploration part of the Warmup Project
Read Chapters 2 and 7 from ThinkStats (this includes filling out the python notebooks chap02ex.ipynb and chap07ex.ipynb in the repo)
The Value of Data Assignment Debrief
Get up, and go form a group with three other students that you don't talk to all that often. In your group, you will be discussing your Value of Data Assignments.
When presenting, summarize for the rest of the group:
A few of your favorite success stories that you found in your research. Try to give the rest of the group the flavor for what you read about without getting bogged down in the details. Remember to touch upon the issue of value creation.
The high-level categories you came up with.
The areas / applications of data science that you are interested in. Make sure to explain why you are interested in these.
When listening:
Be engaged
Ask clarifying questions (particular when it comes to (3)). Get the person to tell the story of the their interests.
Jot down some notes. You may want to catalog interesting examples to research later, or perhaps take notes of any interesting commonalities or differences that emerge.
After Everyone Has Had a Chance to Talk Talk:
Identify any interesting similarities or differences that would be worth sharing with the class.
Any surprises?
At this point, we'll open it up for a brief class-wide discussion.
Reading Debrief
We will be going over the merged ipython notebook from the Chapter 1 reading.
Exploring the Kaggle Bikeshare Dataset
As a group, we'll be exploring the Kaggle Bikeshare Dataset. This will provide you with the tools you need to explore the Titanic dataset for the Warmup Project.
Overview of the Warmup Project
We'll be doing a quick tour of this together in class.
