TIPPERARY ALLIANZ CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL U-11 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The U-11 football and ladies football Go Games fixtures for 2013 were forwarded to all schools recently. The majority of these blitzes have been successfully played at various locations throughout the county. Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol would like to thank everyone who helped in the smooth running of these competitions from co-ordinators to referees and individual schools who took part in the competitions. Co-ordinators are reminded to text the details of the winner of each blitz to Secretary Aodán Wrenn on 087-6578057 as soon as available. I would encourage schools to send match reports on blitzes they have taken part in. Reporter of the Week section has more information on format etc. The best of luck to all teams as they advance to semi-finals and county finals in these competitions.

ALLIANZ CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL & CORNMARKET NATIONAL AWARDS

Schools are reminded of the upcoming Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Cornmarket Awards. There are a number of categories open to schools at the national awards. The Pat Trainor Award was instigated to remember a friend and colleague, Pat Trainor. The object of the award is to honour a fellow teacher who has given years of service to Gaelic Games promotion. This year one nomination will be accepted from each Province so recommendations should be sent to Provincial units. Nominations must be accompanied by a citation outlining the nominees involvement in Cumann na mBunscol. There will be an overall winner who will be presented with the Pat Trainor Perpetual Trophy and will receive two All-Ireland tickets for year 2014. The three other nominees will be presented with trophies. The School of the Year Award is presented to a school that promotes Gaelic games in their community. Work should show how you promote and participate in Gaelic games in your school. The work can be presented through articles /photographs and children’s work. Each school that submits a project to this category will receive an O’Neill’s Jersey in their county colours and a certificate of participation. They will also be put in a draw for 2 All-Ireland tickets for 2014. There are three categories in this section. Schools are judged according to size including 1-4, 4-8 and 8+ classroom teachers. The final section is the Award for the Promotion of GAA Games and Culture. Committees/schools are asked to show their innovative work in promoting Gaelic games and culture. This can target a single area or a number of areas involving promotion of Gaelic Games and Culture including Football, Hurling, Camogie, Handball, Rounders, Respect Initiative, Go Games, Table Quiz etc. Submission will consist of a document outlining promotion work (1 – 2 A4 Pages - 500 words approximately) and photographic evidence on CD or Memory Stick. The closing date for all entries is 17th October.

RULE CLARIFICATIONS

After several queries on certain rules when playing in Cumann na mBunscol matches, a reminder was sent to schools in relation to play of the ball and square ball rules. For both football and ladies football at U-13 and U-11 only two plays of the ball are permitted, i.e. one hop and one solo OR two solos. In addition to this, schools are reminded that the square ball rule applies in Cumann na mBunscol matches. Finally, a reminder that girls can play on the boys football teams at U-11 and U-13 level but must follow boy’s rules.

MOUTHGUARDS

Schools are reminded of the importance of mouthguards for all children participating in Cumann na mBunscol matches. All boys training for and playing Gaelic football must wear mouthguards at all times. Girls playing Ladies Football and training for Ladies Football are not obliged to wear mouthguards until the 1st of January 2014. However, girls playing football on boy's teams will have to wear mouthguards from now. For P.E. lessons undertaken by the teacher or un-organised football sessions, such as at break times, it is at the discretion of the school as to whether mouthguards are to be used.

BANSHA N.S. U13 ROINN E GIRLS FOOTBALL REPORT

Bansha 2-8 New Inn 3-4. Bansha N.S. girls travelled to New Inn to play their first U13 Blitz of the season. We played New Inn Girls school in our first match. New Inn had two points on the board before Bansha settled into the game and our forwards began to take their points. New Inn then scored a goal but full forward Niamh Roche soon scored a goal to put Bansha in the lead. Shannon and Sally Ann were doing brilliant work in midfield and Shannon picked off a nice point. Great passing between the girls lead to 3 more points and we were 4 points in front at half time. Our goalie Megan Tynan kept us in the game with her goalkeeping skills. New Inn began stronger in the second half and added 2 goals to their tally. Megan Heffernan and Olivia Quinn did Trojan work in the back line. Ellie Peters put over 2 more points and Niamh added another goal to keep Bansha ahead. New Inn put over 2 more points and Bansha were under pressure to keep their forwards at bay. Chloe and Caoimhe (our youngest player) also played very well when introduced into the backs. The backs and midfield played extremely well in keeping New Inn out and we won by a margin of 1 point. Bansha 2-5 Loughmore 3-1. In our next match we met a strong team from Loughmore who had already beaten NewInn. Ellie was the first to score a goal after a lovely pass from full forward Eva O Halloran who was picking up lots of loose ball. Shannon made good runs from midfield to put over two points. Loughmore came back with a goal of their own. Eva again passed to Ellie who added another goal for Bansha. Megan Tynan was supreme in goals and pulled off many fine saves. The second half was extremely tough as we began to tire. Shannon and Sally Ann were winning lots of ball midfield. Megan H, Olivia and Chloe Quinn played well in the backs and were sending the ball back into midfield. Niamh scored two points and Ellie added on one point. Saoirse played her heart out in the forwards and made many fine passes. Then Loughmore came back and scored a point and two quick goals in succession. Bansha defence were under severe pressure but they held out the opposition to win by one point. We are now through to the County Final on the 24th of October.
