Early on Monday 14th November a 17 strong panel from St Colmcille’s headed to Cashel to contest the U11B1 Football competition. Expectations were high and the smell of wintergreen on the bus journey was a starter to the intriguing main course that lay in store.

Contesting the County Championship were Cashel, Gaelscoil Durlas, Gaelscoil Cluain Meala, Grange and St. Colmcille’s Templemore. Each team played 4 games. After some titanic battles Cashel finished up as proud and deserving victors with 8 points from 4 games. St. Colmcille’s, Templemore finished as runners-up with 6 points and received silver medals.

Templemore played outstandingly on the day. Darragh Mockler was solid as a rock between the sticks and brought off a fantastic save from a penalty against Grange. Ali Aissou and Stephen Cahill were strong and imposing and steam- rolled all opposing forwards. Niall Sheedy showed all the silky skills of the game and his younger brother Kevin covered the ground like ‘Roadrunner’. Adam Collins ably assisted the afore-mentioned backline and was frequently found sneaking forward for a score.

Niall and Patrick Moloney were tenacious in their tackling throughout and put fear into all their challengers.

James Corcoran was the playmaker in midfield and pulled the strings like Lionel Messi. He was suitably aided by the hard running Marco Quinlan. The mighty Eoin Quinn was also to the fore in the middle third and finished with a sizable tally behind his name.

Up front Templemore had a lethal strike force led by Gavin Coleman and Jack Nevin. Cory Morrissey’s left peg was in serious form and he bagged 2 rockets against Gaelscoil Durlas. Mark Clavin weaved his way through defences with ease during the tournament and was Man of the Match in the Grange game. The biggest cheer to an enjoyable day came when Roberto Ianelli’s deft pass played in Patrick O’ Donoghue for a well taken winning point.

A special thanks to Mr. Will Ryan and his companions from Cashel who organised the event to run like clockwork.
