LANDMARK NIGHT AT NATIONAL CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL AWARDS FOR TIPPERARY ALLIANZ CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL

Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol had a night they’ll never forget when they hosted the prestigious Cornmarket National Cumann na mBunscol Awards in the Anner Hotel Thurles on Friday, March 6th. The hosting of the National Cumann na mBunscol Awards is an opportunity that only presents itself approximately once every thirty years. Chairman Paddy Kelly, Secretary Michael Delaney and the organising committee in collaboration with the Anner Hotel Thurles worked diligently behind the scenes for many months in preparation for this landmark event. Delegates travelled from all over Ireland to be with us for our awards night on Friday, March 6th and for our National Cumann na mBunscol AGM on Saturday, March 7th. Musical entertainment was provided by local band Silver Dollar on the night and we were also treated to some beautiful traditional music from local musician Paul Byrne and company at our drinks reception on arrival. Our Chairman Paddy Kelly left no stone unturned in preparation for this huge event and securing the great Liam Sheedy as our guest speaker for the awards night was a masterstroke and was very well received by delegates from all over the country. Thomastown NS and Holy Trinity NS Fethard flew the flag for Tipperary and ensured local interest on Friday night when they both received National Awards for the work they do to promote our games. Our current Treasurer Jerry McDonnell, former officer Donal McCarthy and handball coordinator Paddy Collins were all given awards on the night to acknowledge the lifelong commitment they had all given to Cumann na mBunscol. We had more good news on Saturday when current Tipperary Cumann na mBunscol PRO John Manley was elected as National Cumann na mBunscol PRO where he will succeed the outstanding Joe Lyons. It was a weekend we will never forget and both Liam Sheedy and Tipperary GAA Chairman John Devane both gave inspirational speeches on the Friday night where they heavily praised the role primary school volunteers play in developing our young people and keeping them on the right path. We also received some powerful video messages on the awards night from Tipperary stars Seamus Callanan, Cait Devane, Jerome Cahill, Brian Fox and Orla O’Dwyer who all highlighted the impact Cumann na mBunscol had on them during their formative years. These videos resonated very well with all those fortunate enough to see them on the night. Tipperary senior hurling coach Darragh Egan was also most helpful behind the scenes as was the Anner Hotel who provided us with constant support in advance of and during the weekend. We thank everybody who helped us in anyway and we look forward to attending the National Awards in Dublin next year when National Cumann na mBunscol will mark its 50th anniversary with a very special celebration. Ní neart go cur le chéile.

TIPPERARY ALLIANZ CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL REPORT 13TH JANUARY 2020 BY JOHN MANLEY

NATIONAL CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL AWARDS COUNTY COLOURS DAY

This year Tipperary Cumann na mBunscol have been asked to host the National Cumann na mBunscol awards night and AGM. This opportunity only comes around once every 32 years and while there is work to it, we are looking forward to hosting it on the 6th and 7th of March 2020 in the Anner Hotel, Thurles. With this undertaking comes considerable expense. Our committee met recently and we decided to ask schools to host a once off COUNTY/CLUB COLOURS DAY on Friday the 17th of January 2020 to make all schools aware that we are hosting this major event next March and to collect funds to offset the costs. All schools participating in the COUNTY/CLUB COLOURS DAY next Friday are asked to post a photo on Twitter with twitter handles @AllianzIreland plus @TippCumanNamBun and also to use the hashtags #AllianzCnmB and #TipperaryCmnB. Please note @TippCumanNamBun is the correct Twitter handle for Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol. We hope that all schools affiliated to Tipperary Cumann na mBunscol will partake and we have fantastic cash prizes up for grabs for all schools that get involved. Also, best wishes to all Tipperary schools that have entered in this year’s National Cumann na mBunscol Awards.

MUNSTER CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL AGM

Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Chairman Paddy Kelly and Tipperary/Munster Allianz Cumann na mBunscol PRO John Manley both attended the Coiste na Mumhan AGM in Templegate Hotel, Ennis on Friday, January 10th. Our coiste were heavily praised for the detailed report we submitted to this year’s 2020 Tipperary GAA Yearbook and we were also wished well with our preparations for this year’s National Cumann na mBunscol Awards/AGM which we are hosting in the Anner Hotel on the weekend of March 6th/7th.

MOUTHGUARDS

As the football season begins schools are reminded of the importance of mouth guards for all children participating in Cumann na mBunscol matches. Both boys and girls playing in Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic Football fixtures must wear mouth guards without exception at all times. It would be advised that schools would also use mouth guards when training to allow children to get used to using them and to follow best practice.

REPORTER OF THE WEEK

Schools are reminded and encouraged to send news and updates of their progress in the football championships for the coming season. Reports can be a great writing topic for the classroom and are an opportunity for children to see their work published for a wider audience. In the pre-season championship build-up children could be given the chance to tell about their own training regiments and tips for the coming championship. A Reporter of the Week will be chosen and their work included in the weekly report. Please ensure all reports are a single paragraph in Verdana 10 type. All submissions should be proof-read by the teacher before submission.

TIPPERARY ALLIANZ CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL REPORT 10th March 2019 BY JOHN MANLEY

ST.JOSEPH’S P.S. TIPPERARY ENJOY SUCCESS AT NATIONAL CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL NATIONAL AWARDS

Congratulations to St. Joseph’s Primary School Tipperary Town who came third in the ‘Small School of the Year’ category at the National Cumann na mBunscol awards which were held in Sligo at the weekend.

TIPPERARY ALLIANZ CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL AGM

Our AGM took place recently on Tuesday, February 12th in Hayes’s Hotel Thurles. Our outstanding Secretary Aodan Wrenn stepped down after 11 very successful years in the role. Aodan played a significant role in revamping our whole fixtures structure which resulted in hundreds of extra children getting to play in Semple Stadium on ‘County Final’ Day. His role in securing Semple Stadium as the venue for our recent County Football finals cannot be underestimated either. We wish Aodan well for the future. Best wishes to Aodan’s successor Michael Delaney of St. Joseph’s NS Templemore.
