Thank you for your interest in volunteering to be a leader! The strength of our cub scout program stems from the commitment and dedication of our parent volunteers. Together we can make it a fulfilling and memorable experience for all our kids.
Every Scout deserves a trained Leader! A trained Leader is knowledgeable and more confident in their role. This impacts the safety and quality of our program, the desire of both Scouts and Leaders to stay, and much more. Leaders are considered trained and eligible to wear the official Trained emblem when they have completed Youth Protection Training and the Position-Specific Training for their position. Select your position below to access your Position-Specific Training. This training can also be accessed through the My Training page from the menu after logging in to the my.Scouting.org website.
Leaders are encouraged to pursue Training Awards that are relevant to their position. The Progress Record associated with each Training Award provides each Leader with a best practice roadmap for developing as a Scouter.
Registered Den Leaders are eligible for the Den Leader Training Award upon: (1) completing one year of service as a registered Den Leader, (2) completing Den Leader Position Specific Training, (3) attending either (a) University of Scouting or (b) four Monthly District Roundtables during the year, (4) and achieving any five of the ten performance objectives listed on the Den Leader Training Award Progress Record.
All Registered Leaders are eligible for the Scouter's Training Award upon: (1) completing two years of service in any registered Adult Leader position, (2) completing Position Specific Training for all positions held during the two years, (3) completing at least one additional supplemental or advanced training event at the council, territory, or national level during the two years, (4) attending either University of Scouting or four District Roundtables during each of the two years, and (5) achieving the three performance objectives listed on the Scouter's Training Award Progress Record.

Program Safety modules offer important information about Scouting's safety programs, including Safe Swim Defense (Swimming), Safety Afloat (Boating), Weather Hazards, Climb On Safely (Climbing), and transportation of Scouts. This training can also be accessed through the My Training page from the menu after logging in to the my.Scouting.org website.
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) Training is recommended. A BALOO-trained adult is required to be present for all camps and must be present for the entire duration. BALOO trainings are typically offered in the Spring and Fall at Camp Pupukea or Keehi Lagoon Memorial. Visit the Aloha Council Calendar or attend a District Roundtable to find out when the next class will be available.
University of Scouting (UoS) is a one-day council supplemental training event for adult Scouting leaders. UoS offers courses for first-time leaders and experienced leaders alike, ranging from outdoor skills to group management concepts. UoS has been cancelled in recent years, but there are online options available. Attend a District Roundtable or contact the Komohana District Training Chair to find more.
If you choose to continue your training and experience as a Cub Scout Leader, there are numerous opportunities to improve scouting.
Wood Badge: Wood Badge is the premier national leadership course for Scouting volunteers and professionals. This course will help you better understand how the Scouting programs tie together and give you leadership tools to provide the best possible Scouting experience for our Scouts. Its purpose is to develop skilled leaders who can strengthen Scouting units and achieve the mission of Scouting America.
District and Council Committees: There's a whole lot more to Scouting than what goes on at the Unit. Scouting relies on volunteer Scouters at the District and Council levels to provide organize program activities such as camps, organize council fundraising, and grow membership. There are plenty of opportunities to help the Scouting organization grow and serve more youth.
Youth Protection Training Certification is valid for two years and must be renewed by all Leaders. The safety and well-being of our Cub Scouts is of paramount importance to our pack and the BSA, and it is integral to everything we do. We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment at all times for all our Cub Scouts. Leaders can renew their YPT Certification by going to the my.Scouting.org website and accessing the BSA's online training modules from the My Training page, or by clicking the Youth Protection Training image here.
