Cub Scouts offers boys and girls an opportunity for age-appropriate fun and adventure—with a purpose. The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. We hope to prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by these values.
The Scout Oath is a promise to always try to live up to the the values of Scouting, including duty above self, and the points of the Scout Law.
A Cub Scout must strive to do their best in all things they do. This does not require perfection, but it requires a good faith effort to the best of the Scout's abilities.
The Scout Law has 12 points. Each is a goal for every Scout. A Scout tries to live up to the Law every day. It is not always easy, but a Scout always tries.
The Pack is a collective of all the dens. Pack meetings are held once a month, at which Cub Scouts attend in uniform, participate in the opening ceremony, and receive awards and achievements. Fun activities for the kids are occasionally conducted at Pack meetings. Pack meetings provide an opportunity for all pack members to socialize and build camaraderie.
Cub Scouts primarily work on earning their achievements with their Dens. The Dens are composed of boys and girls of the same age/grade level. Den meetings are held one a month or when special activities are scheduled. Parent volunteers serve as Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders, who work with other den parents to plan, coordinate, and conduct the activities. Den Meetings provide a small group setting for the Cub Scouts to get to know each other and focus on completing the requirements for their achievements.
Boys and girls from kindergarten to fourth grade are eligible to join Cub Scouts and can join Cub Scouts at any time during the year. When you join Cub Scouts you will be part of a Pack, which is composed of all the members at the location you chose to join. The Pack is divided into Dens that include scouts of the same age.
