Recently I made this raggedy Ann and Andy quilt for my niece, Marissa.
It was from a cut out and very easy. Also soft and comfy for the little one.
A small lap quilt made by me, when the grandchildren were small.
Brenda's Quilts
Quilting is a sewing method done either by hand, by sewing machine, or
by a long-arm quilting system. The process uses a needle and thread to
join two or more layers of material together to make a quilt. Typical
quilting is done with three layers: the top fabric or quilt top, batting or
insulating material and backing material. The quilter's hand or sewing
machine passes the needle and thread through all layers and then
brings the needle back up. The process is repeated across the entire
piece where quilting is wanted. A straight or running stitch is commonly
used and these stitches can be purely functional or decorative and
elaborate. Quilting is done on bed spreads, art quilt wall hangings,
clothing, and a variety of textile products. Quilting can make a project
thick, or with dense quilting, can raise one area so that another stands

OTHER SMALL QUILTED PROJECTS
Candlewick: This is another hobby I enjoy.
Candlewicking is a form of whitework embroidery that traditionally uses an unbleached
cotton thread on a piece of unbleached muslin. It gets its name from the nature of the
soft spun cotton thread, which was braided then used to form the wick for candles.
Motifs are created using a variety of traditional embroidery stitches as well as a
tufted stitch. Subject matter is usually taken from nature - flowers, insects, pine
trees, and so on, Other traditional motifs resemble Pennsylvania Dutch or Colonial
American designs. Modern designs include colored floss embroidery with the traditional
white on white stitching.
Loom-woven or machine-made candlewicks of the early 19th century are white bedcovers
with designs created during the weaving process by raising loops over a small twig or
tool.
Contemporary candlewicking is most commonly used as a cushion cover. -wiki
I do not do much of it, but should do more. Candle wick is easy and fun. I did this
sampler that I framed some time back.
This particular hobby is not as straining on the eyes as some of the needlework. I can
hardly do the fine needlework anymore.

How Much Piecin' A Quilt Is Like Livin A Life
Many a time I"'ve set and listened to Parson Page prechin' about
predestination and free will. I've said to myself, "If I could jest
git up there in the pulpit with one of my quilts. I could make a
life a heap plainer than the parson makes it with big words.
You see to make a quilt, you start out with jest so much caliker.
You don't go to the store and pick it up and buy it but the
neighbors gives you a piece here and there and you'll find you
have a piece left over everytime you cut out a dress and you
jest take whatever happens to come. That's the predestination.
But when it comes to cuttin'out the quilt why you're free to
choose your own pattern. You give the same kind of pieces to
two persons and one'll make a "Nine Patch" and the other
one'll make a "Wild Goose Chase" and so there'll be two quilts
made on the same kind of pieces but jest as different as can be.
That's the way of livin.
The Lord sends us the pieces we can cut 'em out put 'em
together pretty much to suit our selves.
There's a heap more in the cuttin' out and the sewin' than there
is in the caliker.

Water Wars
A wall quilt with small ships and lighthouses.

Sea Fever
I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky.
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face and a grey dawn breaking.
I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
is a wild call and clear a call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume and the sea-gulls crying,
I must go down to the seas again to the vagrant gypsy life
To the gull's way and whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.
