Dress Form Pin Cushion

12"X16" piece of unbleached muslin
one 3" wooden heart
two old wooden spools
12" length of 1/4" wooden dowel
one 3/4" wooden bead
polyester fiberfill
two battenburg doilies, 2" to 3" sizes
thick designer glue
decorator glaze; bark brown
black pigma pens, sizes 5 & .01
1. (Optional: tea stain muslin to antique if desired) Cut dress form front and back. mark darts with an air erase pen. Stitch darts. Iron darts toward centre.
2. Stitch dress form front to back with 1/4" seam allowance. Leave opening on bottom as shown. Trim points and clip curves. Turn dress form right side out.
3. Assemble dress form base so that dowel is glued into spools, and spools to centre of heart. Stain new wood pieces with bark brown glaze. Brush on, then wipe off excess. Paint woooden bead at this time as well. Let dry.
4. Stuff top half of form firmly. Wrap some polyfill around top part of dowel. Insert into dress form and continue stuffing. Whip stitch bottom opening shut. Place a little glue around dowel to hold in place firmly.
5. With pigma pens, add decorative markings to front of dress form. If you wish, draw in markings first with air erase pen.
6. Glue bead to top of form. Glue on tea stained doilies. Add ribbon, ribbon roses (instructions for ribbon rose posy) buttons and charms to decorate, Refer to drawing of project for placement ideas.
Ribbon Roses: use 3/4" and 1" wide sheer ribbons, each rose takes approx. 12"
