Safe & Sacred
Hello Volunteers!
We appreciate all the work that you do to serve our various ministries. Our Archbishop has issued an announcement regarding Safe and Sacred training and background checks for those who volunteer for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
“As a Church, we cherish life and seek to protect the most vulnerable among us from harm. As part of this commitment, all clergy, employees, and volunteers who have contact with children have been required to complete Safe and Sacred child protection training and a background check every three years. Thank you for your involvement in and support of this important process to safeguard children in our care.
We recognize, however, that it takes the efforts of a whole community to protect children, and we want as many adults as possible to complete this important training on how to recognize and report behaviors that may cause harm. In addition, our commitment to protecting the vulnerable among us extends to other people who may be at risk, including the elderly and people with developmental disabilities.
Therefore, effective July 1, 2018, all volunteers at parishes, schools, and agencies of the archdiocese must complete Safe and Sacred training, which includes our code of conduct and background check. We believe that there is great benefit from every volunteer understanding behaviors that create potential risk to others as well as ways to report concerns. Also, this new policy will ensure that every volunteer who interacts with vulnerable adults has completed a background check.
Thank you in advance for your assistance and leadership in implementing this policy. Please contact Human Resources at (317) 236-1594, (800) 382-9836, ext. 1594, or humanresources@archindy.org with any questions or suggestions.
May God abundantly bless you this Lenten season.“
