The 2017 Compass Regatta will be held on Saturday 4th February at Vaucluse Yacht Club, with a BBQ held on the Friday night.
Prizes for the 2015 Regatta
Well the Regatta BBQ is on Friday, February 4th, the roll-up is looking great and we have had some great offers from our supporters, notably Beta Diesel Australia and Jotun Paints, Vacuwash sail cleaning and Hutton Winches. On the Friday night we will be accepting Regatta entries and issuing Lucky Door prize tickets (premier prize this year is 5 Litres of Jotun antifouling paint), and drawing 5 candidate boats for the Register prize. It will be offered to the first of the 5 boats drawn that we can contact anywhere in the world! Lastly there will be the Jim Brown Trophy for the longest voyage in a Compass Yacht since last year's Regatta.
On Saturday, we get out on the water for an 11 o'clock start
This year we (CYG) will provide Handicap prizes for the Compass 28, Compass 29 and Easterly 30 Divisions.
Glenn Townsend-from www.betadiesel.com.au has donated to the Group $750 which will be divided as follows.
Outright Race winner $100 Cheque
First Compass 28 Handicap $150 Cheque
First Compass 29 Handicap $150 Cheque
Second Compass 28 Handicap $100 Cheque
Second Compass 29 Handicap $100Cheque
Third Compass 28 Handicap $75 Cheque
Third Compass 29 Handicap $75Cheque
Each entrant will receive a Brass 2017 Regatta plaque for their bulkhead and two bottles of wine.
Other prizes as usual - remember we are social sailors, don't call ferries or ships to "Starboard"
keep your 200 metre distance and tack early.
The Start Line will be wide and if possible we will sail the easy course probably in the North Harbour toward Manly
clear of most traffic.
2017 is our FifteenthAnnual Regatta. As guests of VYC we are dependant on their calendar - the Regatta will be
on 4th February 2017.
Don Lees has requested we invite all the various Compass' along. So all Compass classes are welcome, Southerly 23s, Westerly and Pacific 27s, Duncanson 29s, Farr 1104s, Innovator 33s, Compass 38s and Compass 40s
The Regatta starts on Friday night with a BYO barbeque at beautiful Vaucluse Yacht Club. It is a popular event with 40-50 people expected. Mostly we are strangers from the Internet, coming together with a common interest, yachting. It is delightful to sit and make new friends while watching the sun set over the Harbour Bridge.
There is limited mooring space for visiting yachts and most people come by car, bus or ferry. This makes it possible for the wider membership to get involved.
The actual race for the trophies starts at 11am Saturday and depending on wind, will generally head for Manly, back to Neilsen Park, Chowder Bay with a Finish line in Watson's Bay. The alternate course if a big sea is running is Nielsen Park, Shark Is, Clark Is, Obelisk and Lady Bay to a Finish Line in Watsons Bay,
It is a fairly relaxed social race with mostly Compass cruisers ploughing their way along for their one and only annual race. There are a few hotshots in the Group who will shoot ahead. The race has been made as safe as possible by using time and physical separation to keep us clear of the main Harbour fleets as well as a wide starting line.
The BBQ is at 6pm onwards on Friday 3th February
The Social race will be sailed at 11am on Saturday 4th February
Prize presentations will be at VYC about 1.30pm
Compass' will depart VYC at 3pm to clear moorings and Club
Boats for the raftup in Sugarloaf Bay will catch the 4.30pm Spit Bridge
Sunday is all yours
