Regatta Report 2022

The 2022 - 20th Anniversary Regatta - of the Post Modern era

A word from Don Lees

Hi Geoff, Lynne, & all Compass Group members present,

Sorry I will not be there with you again for the second year due to this Covid thing ...but with the all clear given, hopefully next year. Special thoughts must be with us loosing Captain Phil recently & to commemorate his loss, partner Di has had a skillful wood carver make a Compass 28 replica to be presented to the Group for the skipper & yacht that has logged the most sea miles in 2021. A wonderful memorial to a sailor who has clocked up more than 53000 global sea miles in a Compass28. So Geoff please pass on my regards to the Group & make sure you give that competitive Compass 28 owner Ian Bradshaw a big handicap for the Saturday fun race.

Cheers to all present. See you next year for the 20th Regatta

cheers,

Don Lees.

Friday Night BBQ

Well the 20th Regatta is taking place as I write with at least two C29s and C28 Secrets have sailed on the Harbour. Dave Robson will contiue on in spite of the weather and

The BBQ went well. Doug came down specially from the Blue Mountains to host us and we had Colin ex C29 Spindrift from Nowra and Michael Ball I33 Pisces and his wife also from Nowra, Dave Robson of C29 Kalina, Ian Braddock C28 Secrets and myself; who hobbled in. While it looked black over the city it was a beautiful quiet night at Watsons Bay. A good night for yarn telling and getting to know people. The BBQ fired up we settled down to dinner. A beautiful evening and great company. Watsons Bay was eerily deserted - parking spots aplenty.

As stated earlier by Don the Long distance prize this year went to Luke and Fuji on C28 Arraminta for a voyage of 1,700 Nm. We had a very late entry from a C29 Arawa from Queensland who had 1900 Nm. (Sorry I've deleted the mail - my apologies - it was a trip to the Whitsundays and return before the cyclone season. I hope Arawa enters again this year for what sounds like an annual pilgrimage.

C28 Solange who attended many of our early Regatta dinners and hosted a sail-in at their house at Elvina Bay, Solange has now been sold.

It's a brief summary. Next year at Watson's Bay!

Thanks all

Geoff
