A Good Insurance Story

This was a good email and I thought it was worth posting with minimal editing
"Hi Geoff, thank for including me in your mailing list. I wish you and your family (extended family, future daughter in law?) all the very best for 2010. May all your adventures be they on the water or on land, be safe, enjoyable and richly rewarding!
I will be in Mongolia for the dates of the regatta and I would have considered sailing down with the other Brisbane based owner if I knew them (feel free to forward my details below in case they want to make contact).
I will as always, look forward to viewing the photos if/when the are posted on the website.
You may recall I had a marine incident with Noko in May 2009 where a large cruiser travelling at speed in a confine channel (inner leads) caused a large bow wave that lifted Noko up and smashed her into an underwater rock/coral formation. This resulted in her sinking (could not stem the flow enough with plugging, electric and manual pumps to keep the water at bay and avoid sinking her).
Because I didn't get the details of cruiser at the time (rather occupied at the time and sailing solo) the Marine Authority were unable to track the owner and take them to task. I received fantastic support from the Raby Bay VMR they did a lot to assist me and helped me patch and re float her and towed us to a slipway for further repair - Outstanding
There is an up side however, I am insured with Suncorp and they spent thousands (plus a wee few from me) to completely refurbished Noko to the base of the mast. She is now very much like when she came out of the yard only with improved fittings etc.
- New Volvo 20 hp 3cyl motor and gearbox
- Completely rewired/panels/switches
- All new instruments/radio/stero/cd
- Revarnished, new upholstery
- Bimini and lee cloth covers
A few months on and the only work I need to complete is to fit new windows all around as they have since started to leak a little, not good on new upholstery.
So as you can see, the idea of sailing down for the regatta would have been appealing to say the least.
If anyone asks about the new Volvo motors for C29's then I can highly recommend them. It is so smooth and quiet (Ellen likes it as its push button starting and runs much quieter than my previous Yanmar. Steve from Dolphine Marine in Mooloolaba fitted the motor/gearbox and made a very nice job of it (I think I sent photos to you).
Thank you for your continued support of the Compass community, I for one really appreciate your efforts and for freely sharing of your considerable knowledge and for the updates on the website.
Warm regards
