Thirty years go the Compass 28 was one of the biggest production yachts available in Australia. Most of us were growing in experience as the boats got bigger and it is really no surprise that anchor handling was not thought through. The C28 with its one fairlead roller to starboard and a cut down Danforth anchor stowed in the deck locker was always barely adequate. "We never used it so no wonder it rusted up!"
It was a joy to see Pumpkin's new anchor setup at the 2009 Regatta. She now has twin fairlead rollers and a really good anchor. No doubt this reflects her new home at Batemans Bay where they really need to do some serious anchoring and quite often.
They have fitted commercial fairleads bolted out each side of the stem piece. It looks really workable. They have also fitted a Rockna 10 anchor which is permanently catted to Port. Port? maybe that is why the C29 anchor is catted to Starboard - seems more natural somehow. Just semantics.

In Tish's words "We have to keep the shank of the Rocna tied off slightly to one side so that it stays well clear of the furling drum; also I have to be careful to put the mooring line under the furling line, but the Rocna has been much easier to handle than the Danforth. "
