E-bikes stations in Salisbury

Sadly Co-bikes has gone into liquidation - we are working with the City Council and Wiltshire council to explore alternatives, but they may not be in place for some time.

New Cycle Storage and e-bike hire docking stations open in Salisbury

A partnership between South Western Railway, Wiltshire Council, Wiltshire College and University Centre and Co-Bikes (https://www.co-bikes.co.uk/about-us/) recently opened a new deluxe top of the range cycle storage facility for up to 74 bikes at Salisbury station along with an e-bike hub station for 10 electric bikes.

For those commuters concerned about security the cycle storage facility is fitted with CCTV and audible alarms that are sensor operated every time someone enters the facility. There is also elevated cycle parking  when busy.

The electric bikes are opposite the cycle storage facility. Hiring bikes requires a smart phone and an app from “Next Bike” (https://www.nextbike.co.uk/en/) and is relatively simple and easy using the QR code on the bike which unlocks and starts your hire period.  The rider only needs to adjust the height of the seat and off they go. Just make sure that you check that your bike is fully charged before you select the bike (the app indicates the charge of the bike).  Electric bikes make cycling easier and the evidence is that those using ebikes cycle more often and for longer periods of time.

New e-bike docking station at Wiltshire College - April 2023

Co-bikes have just opened a new docking station at Wiltshire college. The docking station is just outside the front door of the college and will provide students with e-bikes which they can use to access the city.  These new bikes also provide an active travel choice for many residents for commuting, shopping and for leisure rides.

People who buy an e-bike more than double their use of cycling for transport and that e-bike owners use private cars less than other transport user groups. 1
