To be or not to be?! -- in Spanish, when you talk about location, you use the verb SER, which means, TO BE. Of course, in English, we do not say: I to be, You to be, She to be; rather, we have to conjugate the infinitive of the verb and make it agree with the subject.
You should already have this in your notes:
You should be able to conjugate SER according to the subject:
Now, how do you ask where your friend is from? How do I ask how all of you are from? And how would you respond?
¿De dónde eres? ---> Soy de Nueva York ¿De dónde son ustedes? OR IN SPAIN ¿De dónde SOIS? --->Somos de Nueva York
Where are your parents from? ¿De dónde son tus padres? -->Mis padres son de Nueva
