¡Felicitaciones! Congratulations, you made it through the first three weeks! ¡Chóca los cinco! Give a high five as this has certainly been a productive couple of weeks of review. A goal of mine this year is for the entire class to actively use this webpage as a class resource, not only to check homework assignments, but to submit work, retrieve worksheets and leave comments.
We began the year by practicing classroom procedures and discussing class guidelines and expectations. We shared something interesting about our summer and practiced greeting one another in Spanish again. We also covered some of last year's grammatical topics and reviewed some areas of weakness, which we will do throughout the year as we continue to develop our skills and build upon what we know.
Additionally, we reviewed common verbs that we use when talking about our classroom that end with AR/ER/IR. Many of them are REGULAR verbs, we we have come across irregulars as well. You did a good job at categorizing the "stem-changers" also known as "boot verbs" into the following groups: E-I; E-IE; YO-GO, O-UE. Practicing the verbs by grouping them will help you with conjugations, but there is not one miracle formula that can tell you how to identify them beyond that. Practice makes perfect! Luckily, we use these verbs quite often in class and conjugating them will come naturally.
As a way to practice SER VS. ESTAR, we talked about where Ecuador IS located (estar) and how the geography IS (SER). You used comparisons of equality and inequality to compare the United States to Ecuador. Lastly, we looked at possessive adjectives. Often, things are left in the classroom and it comes in handy to be able to ask.....¿De quién es el cuaderno?! ":)
The first quiz covers these review topics and then we will focus on how to DAR UNA FIESTA--throw a party as we begin Unidad 5, lección 2.
Saludos,
Sra. G
