¡Hola clase!
We may not have thrown an actual party in class last week, but I think our singing "La fiesta tiene que ser divertida" shows that we know what to do host a good one! This unit, we are focusing on vocabulary that "tiene que ver"-- has to do with preparing and planning a party along with the chores that "tenemos que hacer" before and after. Speaking of "have to," you reviewed the difference between tener que and hay que--> hay que does not have a specific subject despite expressing something that must get done. You also discussed how necesitar is a synonym that expresses a similar idea, but you do not need to use "que." Deber is more of a suggestion than an obligation, but if your parents tell you: debes hacer la tarea- that is a strong hint! :)
Remember, in English we use the expression: "have a party," whereas in Spanish, we use the verb DAR (to give). Dar una fiesta translates to giving/throwing a party. Entonces, ¿qué necesitas hacer para dar una fiesta? ¿Tienes que barrer el suelo? ¿Necesitas lavar los platos y sacar la basura? Si tu dormitorio está disorganizada, hay que hacer la cama y limpiar el cuarto.
As we are focusing on Ecuador this month, we are sticking to our theme of throwing parties and have already learned that los Quiteños really know how to festejar! (celebrar). The first week of December, thousands of visitors and locals celebrate the Fiestas de Quito, in honor of Quito's "aniversario" of their independence. ¿En qué puedes participar en la fiestas? As you saw, read, heard and discussed, there is no shortage of exciting events. Puedes monter en una Chiva, ver un desfile con bailes y ropa folklórica, escuchar música tradicional y patriótica de las Bandas de Quito, o tal vez vas a mirar una carrera o competencia de los coches de madera--but, I wouldn't suggest riding one of those wooden toy cars, they aren't the safest! :)
Remember, we have a vocabulary quiz on lunes, cinco de Octubre. Then we will continue to practice the vocabulary with new grammatical structures including COMMANDS-- wouldn't it be great to tell someone else to hacer la cama, sacar la basura, lavar los platos? Una broma-- just kidding.
