Graduate students are held to a maximum earning limit during the academic year and summer. While the limit varies by student's living status (single, married, married w/dependents), the average can be found at Maximum Limit of Merit-Based Support.
Only stipends and salary from ASE positions are calculated towards the earning limit. Loans, fellowships directly allocated to tuition, fee remissions, and salary from staff positions are not included in the calculation. If you hold multiple fellowships with stipends and have an ASE position at a high %-time, please come see the SAO to make sure you will not exceed your earning limit.
Reaching the limit may result in a fellowship reduction, a request to reduce the number of working hours to stay within the limit, or a charge on the BruinBill to pay back the excess amount.
