About Charles Henderson Animal Rescue

Charles Henderson Animal Rescue was founded in July 2012.

Charles Henderson Animal Rescue is a qualified 501c3 public charitable organization and a New York State recognized not for profit corporation.

Charles Henderson Animal Rescue is an approved animal rescue shelter adoption center & humane society.

Charles Henderson Animal Rescue was established after serving as the former Director of Operations for another animal rescue in Brooklyn, NY for 5 years where I was directly responsible for the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of over 5000 dogs and 2000 cats.

In response to the flood of helpless, hurt, unhealthy and homeless animals that fill the city shelters and the streets of New York City with animals on a daily basis, I decided to open my own no kill animal rescue.

The pressing need for additional animal rescues where more animals could be saved from the slaughterhouse and rehomed was clearly evident.

Charles Henderson Animal Rescue Commitment

One at a time and as many as we can provide for properly, Charles Henderson Animal Rescue is committed to endowing our animals with a decent quality of life and a safe haven where resources are plentiful and the environment enriches and stimulates the dogs positively and productively as well as enhances the mental, psychological and emotional well being of the animals in our care until being adopted out to new forever homes with loving, caring and compassionate human being partners.

About Charles Henderson

Currently, I live with an English mastiff/Great Dane mix, a Neapolitan mastiff, a French mastiff(Dogue de Bordeaux), a Bullmastiff, a Belgian Malinois, a Great Dane/Pitbull mix, an Akita, an Alpine Mastiff (St. Bernard), a Giant Schnauzer and a Czech Shepherd. 2 of my dogs are certified therapy dogs with DELTA Society, 2 are executive protection dogs and 1 is in training to be a urban search and rescue dog.

Prior to opening my own animal rescue, I was the director of another animal rescue were I was directly responsible for the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of over 5000 dogs and 2000 cats with less than a 2% return rate.

Additionally, I served and currently serve as the behaviorist, rehabilitator & dog trainer responsible for rehabilitating all the dogs that have behavioral challenges. I have been lauded as the dog whisperer of the east coast by many, but I prefer to be considered the fixer, as I usually come in after several other dog trainers and fix the problem in short order, most of the time. It's not about me being a superstar dog trainer or my ego. It's about the dog becoming a happy go lucky canine good citizen.

Prior to opening my own animal rescue, I was the founder of an independent outdoor advertising company, Warrior Walls Ltd, located in Manhattan, New York. I attended Columbia University where I studied Neural Science Behavior/Psychology and Business Administration and played football for the Columbia Lions as a free safety. I paid my tuition by serving as a professional personal trainer to Hollywood movie stars such as Rene Russo and specializing as a K9 trainer and handler professionally as well.

Additionally, I trained in special operations and served as a combat search and rescue specialist . I am a certified professional dog trainer (CPDT). I have 10 dogs and 4 cats. Recently my Bullmastiff, Archon, who was an hour away from being put to sleep when I rescued him, died from cancer.

Archon was totally amazing and the most special dog. He served as an ambassador for rescue dogs. Archon was a therapy dog. We started a therapy dog program at the VA in Manhattan. We visited kids in schools, people in the hospital, elderly at nursing homes, the homeless and at risk youth. He gave an immense amount of love to a lot of people.

I love dogs and cats with all my heart, and am really troubled when I see one that is not a happy, calm and peaceful. When an animal is calm and peaceful, that is when they are "happiest"... except for when they are playing.

God is love. The word for love in Hebrew is lev. The word for dog in Hebrew is kelev. There has been associations with God and dogs and love since they warmed their way into human beings' hearts well over 5000 years ago. Dogs are full of love and light.

I live for, love immensely and long greatly to be with dogs and cats...24-7-365. They are my life. Dogs and cats are are God's special creatures. When I am with my dogs and cats, I am with God. God is full of love and so are dogs and cats.

After all, God spelled backwards is dog and dogs are full of love. Amen!
