Grammar
1. to start / to finish
.- With the verb to start ,you can say:
He started setting the table ( Él comenzó poniendo la mesa )
or
He started to set the table. ( Él comenzó a poner la mesa )
.- With the verb to finish, you can only say:
He finished setting the table Él terminó poniendo la mesa
Después del verbo to start puede ir un verbo en gerundio ( setting ) o en infinitivo ( to set )
Pero , después del verbo to finish solo puede ir el verbo en gerundio ( setting )
2. Might : podría
We say might to express possibility or when something isn´t 100 % sure:
Louis might do all of these chores, but he might not because he only listens to his mother when he wants to !
3. Before ( antes) / after (después ) :
Main uses of BEFORE (earlier than) and AFTER (later than):
• As a preposition:
after lunch : después de comer
before dinner : antes de cenar
• As conjunctions:
After he told me the story, he left my house.
Después de contarme la historia, él se fue de mi casa Before we start dinner, I would like to say something.
Antes de empezar a cenar nosotros, me gustaría decir algo.
• At the end of a clause, as an adverb:
The criminal was stopped a month after he committed the crime.
El criminal fue detenido un mes después de que él cometió el crimen.
He has written about this subject before.
Él ha escrito sobre este tema antes.
I've seen him before. Yo lo he visto antes.
Note: when 'after' or 'before' is followed by a verb, that verb can be in the '-ing' form, or be a conjugated verb with a subject.
