Configuration
The configuration for a six person polka set is slightly different from that of an eight person polka set.
The set should be arranged the same as an eight person polka set, but with only one side couple (1). Creating an isosceles triangle, rather than an equilateral one, makes it very easy to transition to trio facing trio, the basis for many six person figures. To transition, the side couple splits (2) and each person joins a head couple (3). After dancing the figure, the dancer from the side couple breaks away from the heads and returns to the side position (4). They are then ready to polka in with the rest of the set (5). As members of the side couple will frequently be dancing from the woman's position for some figures and the man's position for others, the usual strategy of placing newer dancers in the side position may not work as well in a six person polka set.
