This figure is the creation of Laura Gorrin.
For 8 (Square, 32 bars)
Ladies follow partner 2 counts behind, gents follow contra corner 2 counts behind.
Ladies: 7s left to their partner's place (2), 7s right to the contra corner of the place they are currently in (2), 7s left to the adjacent gent's place (2), right to the contra corner, etc. Repeat till home. Gents start with 7s right to their contro corner's place, and follow the same pattern. (16 counts total)
Slow Iris- can also be done with setting, which makes it 32 counts.
There's another figure that I've been circulating a little recently, called Celtic Crash.
Follows the same pattern as the Iris in terms of the order of positions people hit, but is more like a celtic cross.
Gents start by going in by the right shoulder, rotating around each other like a right hand star without hands, and going out the place of their contra corner 5/8ths of the way around the circle (2). Meanwhile, ladies cast over their right shoulder into their partner's position (2). Ladies then go in by the right shoulder 5/8ths while the men cast over their right shoulder into the adjacent positon. Repeat till home. (16 counts total.)
Note: this figure is fast. You have to book it through the center- you have one count to go into the set, and one count to get out. The casting isn't just to look pretty, it's to get the other four people out of the way. Ladies are leaping out of the set on the final count, so they have to fudge a bit to get into a polka body or some other figure. (Laura Gorrin)
