Thinking About Systems Engineering

Systems engineering is a mindset that applies a range of methods and processes that can be used to bring a project to completion with managed risk. This discussion will provide a sense of systems engineering activities, its roles and how you might take advantage of systems engineering in your profession or to make it your profession. 

Bruce Lerner

Bruce "retired" following a 37 year career as a computer/software turned systems engineer. He is a senior member of IEEE and INCOSE, currently involved with the IEEE-Connecticut executive committee and hosts one of the INCOSE Systems Exchange Cafes (Fir). He has a B.S. in Computer Engineering ('81) / M.S. in Management of Engineering ('91) and certificates as a SDMRM Trainer ('99) and in Systems Engineering ('05). He has co-authored two patents (dispatching, comm network).


Bruce has been employed in industries addressing non-destructive testing, communications and access control, intra-building transportation (elevators) and SDMRM consulting. His roles have included software developer, requirement engineer, system architect, team, group and department manager and process advocate and trainer. He holds two patents (dispatching, communications).
