April Meeting Minutes
Cayuga Bird Club, April 9, 2018
Vice-President Diane Morton called the meeting to order at 7:28 pm. She welcomed two new visitors to the meeting. The minutes of the last meeting, taken by Colleen Richards, were approved. They are posted on the club's website.
Meena Haribal reported on the field trip she led to Sodus Bay.
Ann Mitchell reported on her snowy field trip to Dryden Lake.
The next meeting will be May 14. Meena Haribal will speak about her stay in Brazil in the Pantanal.
Upcoming field trips:
April 22, Gladys Birdsall will lead a walk at Stewart Park and Jetty Woods
April 29, Liisa Mobley will lead a trip to South Monkey Run
May 5, Paul Anderson will go to the Park Preserve
May 6, Josh Snodgrass will lead a trip in the Finger Lakes National Forest

Jody Enck, head of the Conservation Action Committee, will lead a trip to Costa Rica for club members, leaving April 20. He arranged this trip through the Holbrook Travel Company which gave back $1600 of the money as a donation to the club. Jody presented a check from Holbrook Travel to the club, Some of these funds may be used for projects by the Conservation Action Committee.
Donna Scott said that there will be a work party at Salt Point from 9-12, on Saturday, April 14.
During the month of May there will be bird walks on Fridays at the Cornell Plantations and wildflower walks on Sundays at Sapsucker Woods.
Sandy Wold will give a talk on methane mitigation at the Ithaca Vegan Challenge on Wednesday, April 11, at 7 pm.
Diane Traina read the list of the birds of the Cayuga Basin.
The speaker for the evening was Paul Guris, founder of See Life Paulagics, pelagic birding tours. The title of his talk was Pelagic discoveries – birding the mid-Atlantic and New York waters. He spoke of all the birds he had found over the years that had once been considered rarities and the methods he used to find them.
