September Meeting Minutes

Cayuga Bird Club meeting, Sept. 12, 2016

President Jody Enck called the meeting to order at 7:30.  Colleen Richards provided cookies.  There is a sign-up sheet to bring cookies for the next several meetings.

A new member, Muhammad, stood to introduce himself.

It is time for dues to be paid.  Members may pay the $15 to Treasurer Susan Danskin in person or online at the club website.

There are two events this Saturday, Sept. 17.  One is the annual Muckrace which is a fundraiser for the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge.  This year it goes in support of MOTUS, a study using radio towers to track birds.  Please see Bob McGuire or go online to pledge money (http://friendsofmontezuma.org/projects-programs/muckrace/)

The second is the Migration Celebration at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology from 10-3.  The Cayuga Bird Club will have a table there and there is a sign-up sheet if you would like to volunteer.

Colleen Richards has books she is giving away.  Last weekend was the annual NYSOA meeting sponsored by the Chemung Valley Bird Club.  We will try to get a report in the next newsletter.

Every weekend there are bird walks at the lab.  There will be field trips this fall but we need a new chairman for the committee as Meena Haribal is stepping down.  Please check the website.

Bob McGuire will be the speaker at next month's meeting and there will be the annual elections for officers.  Write-ups about the candidates were in the last newsletter.

Jody Enck will be going to Honduras this fall to meet with leaders of local bird clubs. His purpose is the development of sister clubs for the conservation of the birds which we share. There is a sign-up sheet if you would like to learn more about it.

Bob McGuire read the list of the birds of the Cayuga Basin.

The speaker for the evening was photographer and bird club member, Marie Read. She told of her trips to several sites in Utah and Montana and showed her beautiful photographs in her presentation, Grebe Quest Out West.

Respectfully submitted,

Becky Hansen, Recording Secretary
