May Meeting Minutes

Cayuga Bird Club, May 8, 2017

President Jody Enck called the meeting to order at 7:30.  Marie Read and Rick and Diann Kugler provided cookies.

June 12, the last meeting of the year, will be the annual picnic held at Myers Point at 6 pm.

May 9, there will be a benefit for the Friends of Stewart Park held at Cinemapolis from 7-9 pm.  It will feature the works of three photographers, Marie Read, Sarah Blodgett and Dede Hatch, and three bands.  The suggested donation is $20.

May 13, global Big Day.  Report findings on eBird.

May 13, Dryden BioBlitz at Dryden school district properties.

During  the month of May, purchase of Alaska Fertilizer at Lowe's helps to support Schools for School Gardens.

Field Trips:

May 13, Wes Blauvelt will lead a trip to Thatcher's Pinnacles and Michigan Hollow.  Meet at Jennings Pond in Danby at 7am.

May 14, Ken Kemphues will lead a trip to Hawthorn Orchard.  Meet at 8am.  Wear boots.

John Confer is looking for Merlin nests.

Ann Mitchell read the list of the birds of the Cayuga Lake Basin.

The speaker for the evening was Dr. Dan Ardia who teaches at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. The title of his talk was "From PA to Africa: Chickadees in forest fragments & house sparrows in Africa".
