December Meeting Minutes

Cayuga Bird Club,  December 14, 2015

President Jody Enck called the meeting to order at 7:30.

Our Christmas Bird Count will be on January 1.  See Jody if you would like to get in touch with one of the area organizers. Following the count there will be a pot luck dinner at the lab at 6:30 and compilation at 7:30.

The next club meeting is on January 11, 2016.  It is “Share Your Photos” night.

Jody welcomed visitors to the meeting.

Field Trips:

Diane Morton reported on the trip to Niagara Falls led by Jay and Kevin McGowan on Dec. 5-6.  Eight species of gulls and Harlequin ducks were seen.

Ann Mitchell led a successful trip on Dec. 12 to look for Short-eared Owls at Long Point

Winery.

Mid-January there will be a trip to Sodus Bay.  Check the calendar.

Carl Steckler reported on his trip to Connecticut to see the Pink-footed Goose.

Donna Scott made a presentation about funds needed for the construction of a kiosk at Salt Point in Lansing.  She asked the club to contribute $1000 toward it.  She showed what the kiosk would look like and explained the kinds of information to be presented on it. There was some discussion, following which Linda Orkin proposed that the club give the $1000. The motion was seconded by Marie Read.  The club voted and the motion passed.

Susan Danskin read the list of the birds of the Cayuga Basin.  She also thanked Donna for her presentation.

Bob McGuire and Wes Blauvelt were the speakers for the evening.  They gave a fascinating presentation about their road trip last summer to and throughout Alaska looking for and recording birds.

Respectfully submitted,

Becky Hansen, Recording Secretary
