coming up in JUNE 2024:

MAY 2024:

In May we enjoyed a sedate morning tea at Waterline. Our guest speaker was Richard Wilson. He spoke about the history of the Marina.

APRIL 2024:
Our visit this week to the Gracemere CQLX cattle auctions was a unique experience with this being the largest cattle sale complex in the southern hemisphere. We enjoyed a tour and explanation of the vast area and how the cattle were sold; determined either by their weight or sometimes by the complete animal.  We then had the opportunity to watch the auctioneers during the sale of the 4678 cattle, from sellers from all over CQ. The amazing young auctioneer had incredible speed and accuracy as he moved with speed along the dozens of pens. Cattle of all ages and colours were corralled, and sold denoting the seller, before being individually weighed.

Today was an eye opener and an amazing experience for the 36 U3A members attending.

See our photos here.

MARCH 2024:
A visit to Cooberrie Park Wildlife Sanctuary was hugely successful despite the inclement weather. A group of 15 toured the park to view the huge range of animals. The highlight of our visit was the 'show' where we enjoyed an informative talk by the staff.

We studied the snakes while wearing them around our necks, brushed up on the Boyd's forest dragon with one nestled in our hand, became learned about lorikeets while they happily nested in our hair, and the koala was unperturbed by our caresses.

We visited the hospital where vital work is undertaken for over 100 sick and injured animals each year who are rehabilitated with most returned to their wild habitat. Those that can't be returned to their habitats enjoy their lives at the Sanctuary.

Check out the fabulous pics (and a bonus poem) here.

FEBRUARY 2024:

surrounds at Stir and Stitch (in Arthur st Yeppoon).

Andy from Ground Art Landscaping gave a very interesting and informative talk about landscaping for our area. He touched on many areas such as suitable plants, pests and weeds, and all areas of landscaping to make your home a special place.
