Sale - A Huge Success

The weather was perfect for BVGC’s Spring Plant Sale held on Saturday, May 5th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at Village Waste Water. Hundreds of people came in search of trees, shrubs, perennials, hanging plants and baskets to beautify their lawns and gardens. Many even brought their own carts and wagons to load the numerous plants offered at great prices. All seemed happy with the wide selection available for purchase.

Cathy Downard, Plant Sale Chairwoman, did an excellent job orchestrating the event. She had secured many members and volunteers to help with parking, plant selection, loading, etc. Master gardeners were available to answer questions and Lou Jasper found herself with a steady line of individuals wanting to inquire about native plants. Ways and Means committee members also had a large selection of gently used garden tools available for sale.

Bella Vista Mayor Peter Christie attended and visited with Cathy Downard and other members about the success of the sale. One of our recent scholarship recipients also stopped by to show his support for the event and the organization providing financial support for his horticultural studies. Funds from the plant sale are used to provide scholarships for students studying horticulture at area colleges and universities.

Publicity Chairman

The event surpassed all expectations. This only happens when our membership puts their heads and hands to "the metal" to make our efforts succeed. Special thanks to the chairperson, Cathy Downard, and the digging chair, Penny Frahm. I know Cathy spent innumerable hours in planning, soliciting help, etc. We are so thankful that Penny can dig!. I simply cannot list all of the members who were so vital in this effort but please know a very heartfelt thanks is extending to all of you.
