Meeting of the BVGC will be March 27, 2024

Program: Ryan Neal, Benton County Extension Agent is also the owner of Neal Family Farm.  He presented a program called "Blueberries, Blackberries and Honey - Oh My."


His Farm is a "pick it yourself" place.  His berries don't require bending over to pick them.


Many committee chairmen gave reports.

February 19th 2024 Garden Club Meeting

Our speaker, Susan Esche, Benton County Master Gardener, showed a PowerPoint presentation entitled "Getting the most From Your Vegetable Garden".  Q and A followed.

Meeting

1 - Mayor Flynn spoke on the coming election.

2 - Jamie Hooper conducted the meeting in Dory's absence. 

3 - Joal Miller talked about the Spring Plant Sale.

4- Tony LiCausi's horticultural program featured Tree and Shrub Pruning.

5- Julie Okeefe showed a trailer of a movie that will be show later at the Momentary named "The Biggest Little Farm".  It will also be on YouTube.

6- Ginny Vance made some announcements including the upcoming Pottery Program.

January 2024 Garden Club Meeting

Our club had a great first of the year kick off meeting. 

Our speaker Butch Tetzlaff, owner of the Blue Bird Shed, gave a great presentation on "The Birds of Bella Vista".  He answered many questions. 

Topics of Discussion

Tony LiCausi, one of our members, discussed a list of great seed and plant catalogs.  Upcoming events were discussed.

New Members' Lunch

Becky Parmelee and Georgine Smith carrying out the sandwich for the New Members' Luncheon food table.  The luncheon was held immediately following the regular January meeting to welcome all the new members who joined in the last year.  Various members of the Garfden Club gave short talks on the different activities and committees of the Club.  

The October 25, 2023 Meeting of the BV Garden Club

Program: Tom Skahan, (top left) owner of Ozark Iris Gardens in Noel, MO, gave a presentation entitled "May the luck of the Iris be with you!"  Then (top right) he had iris tubers and his special fertilizer mix for sale.


Snack Table: with Halloween Décor (bottom left) included bagels with spreads, fruit and honey in the comb.   


Artistic Design: (center) featured a bouquet of beautiful reblooming iris furnished in by Julie O'Keefe.


Raffle Table: (bottom right) highlighted Halloween items.


Horticulture: Tony LiCausi (not shown) gave a talk on “Flower Bulbs" - The best sources, how and when to plant them in Bella Vista and recommendations for fertilization.                                       Posted 10/25/23

September 27th, 2023 Meeting

Marilyn Russell, Pat Meyer, Sonora Weeden, Sawyer Henderson, Dr. Wayne Mackey, and Virginia Halman.

Sonora Weeden recipient of the Bella Vista Garden Club's Sharon Abmeyer Memorial Scholarship.

Sawyer Henderson recipient of the Bella Vista Garden Club Dorothy Wallace Scholarship.

Geri Hoerner, Sonora Weeden and Dr. Wayne Mackey.  Sonora received the Sharon Abmeyer Memorial Scholarship which was created to honor Geri Hoerner's sister-in-law, Sharon Abmeyer. 

It was announced that the Garden Club Yearbook was dedicated to Mary Doyle this year.  Mary brings her "can do" attitude, welcoming smile, and garden know how to every project in which she is involved.  She was grateful and wanted to share the honor with her co-chair and the members of the Bella Vista Memorial Garden Cemetery Committee.  The BVGC has received numerous awards for the work of this committee.

1 President Dory Hammeke presented a gift to Pat Schrad for her many years with the Welcome Committee as she moves on to other things.  

2. Marilyn Russell received flowers from Virginia Hallman and a kaleidoscope from Pat Meyer for her many years of service on the Scholarship Committee.

3. Cathy Wayson and Geri Hoerner received a gift for their work creating and editing the Garden Club's Yearbook.

4. Tony LiCausi gave the Horticutural talk on various fertilizers and provided a handout.  

5. The Artistic Design was created by Mary O'Brien.
