13. & 14. Lake Clark National Park & Preserve
General - Lake Clark National Park
Lake Clark National Park and the Preserve unit are normally accessed by scheduled tour operators from Anchorage but can also be accessed by air taxis from Homer and Soldotna. The main visitor center is near the airstrip at Port Alsworth. There is a marked trail from the Visitor Center to Tanalian Falls which is in the designated National Park, it is about a 2.5 mile hike. Another one mile hike takes you to Lake Kontrashabuna which is located in the Park unit. The Visitor Center is located on Federal land within the designated Preserve. There are 4 seasonal Ranger Stations located within Park and two of them maintain an Eastern National stamp. They are Silver Salmon and Twin Lakes. The NPS web site gives information on Day Hikes to Tanalian Falls.

The NPS map is shown on the Lake Clark unigrid brochure and on the Lake Clark web site. The Preserve section is at the far Western segment of the park. The Lake Clark Visitor Center is south of the south runway at Port Alsworth. The National Geographic Map for Lake Clark which is available for sale gives the boundaries of the Park and the Preserve.

"The Anchorage and Homer Visitor Centers are located outside both the National Park and the National Preserve. The Port Allsworth Visitor Center is located within Lake Clark National Preserve, and a moderate 2.8 miles one-way hike to Kontrashibuna Lake takes you into Lake Clark National Park. The Silver Salmon Creek Ranger Stations is located within Lake Clark National Park. The Twin Lakes Ranger Station is also located with Lake Clark National Park, with Lake Clark National Preserve being a couple miles downstream on the Chilikadrotna River from the Ranger Station." - NPTC
