The virtual convex array is a rectangular linear array that can electronically steer the beam at both ends of the display to produce a much wider trapezoid display.
This allows the sonographer to increase the width of the field of view when using the rectangular linear array.
Not all rectangular linear arrays have this capability, but many do. Be sure to check your equipment's manual to see if yours has this function.
