On 23 April 2014, the following poster for Reunion Dinner 2014 was issued:
A Google site was set up under the name BScCS8690 (URL: https://sites.google.com/site/bsccs8690/). Unlike the Graduation Dinner, the Reunion 2014 will invite all classmates who had studied in the Computer Studies course.
Soon, the Organizing Committee (OC) of the Reunion 2014 found that a lot of email addresses were no longer in use. Effort was then taken to update the contact list by all means. After that, a questionnaire was distributed to accessible classmates on 21 May to collect their opinion and expectation about Reunion 2014. The questionnaire was designed using Google Forms, allowing classmates to fill it in online. Results could be analyzed immediately, though open-ended questions needed manual analysis.
The Reunion began with a cocktail party at 5;00pm. Fruit punches, oranges and beers were served. Classmates entering the venue wrote and signed their wishes for the class on PostIt note-papers. The PostIt notes were then sticked to a signing board. George Chan sang songs on the stage during the cocktail party. The volume of the music were a bit too loud though.
At about 7:00pm, the dinner began. But before dishes were served, old and new photos of classmates were shown. Of particular interest was a scanned image from Donkey, which was the Letter of Acceptance to the Professional Diploma in Computer Studies course! It was dated August 1986!!!
The dinner was a Chinese banquet with the following dishes: Geoffrey went to all tables to serve wines, including those sponsored by him. Table games were played in the middle of the dinner, using a deck of cards from Quantas Airline and balloons. I could only remember two quiz questions: the name of the Head of Department of Computer Science and the venue of our Graduation Dinner. The prizes were nothing but forks and spoons. Video were played when classmates were busy eating and chatting with each others, so few cared about it.
After the dinner, Simon started to do live interview with selected classmates. Classmates interviewed include: Loka who became a Chinese doctor, W.L. Fung who spoke about the relationship between computers and politics, Louis who became a Christian priest, Angela and Helena whose nicknames ended with more or less the same syllable, and Mike who became a teaching consultant on project management.
The Reunion was concluded with some group songs led by George again. The crowd were not very enthusiastic, though in the end some classmates started waving their hands. Classsmates started to leave the venue, collecting a memorial mug on the way.
