1990 is another historic events in our life. We have reached a higher echelon in our education.
In 1986, we entered a commercial building in Mongkok. Its name is Argyle Centre Tower II. Yet this name meant special things to us. It was the place where we were going to receive our tertiary education. It was the temporary campus of the City Polytechnic of Hong Kong.
The building was small, yet our ambition was not.
Now, after four years of study, all of us graduate as Bachelor of Science with Honours Degree in Computer Studies. And the City Polytechnic of Hong Kong now stations in her permanent campus in Kowloon Tong. Looking back, what we have learnt can be categorised into four groups: computer systems, software engineering, information systems and supporting modules.
Information systems modules bombarded us with knowledge in system analysis and design using dataflow analysis. Project management is an important part of the modules as well.
Software engineering introduced methods of developing economic and efficient software using engineered approaches. It covered latest software development methodologies and practices applicable in various phrases of software development. Program reliability and validity are emphasized.
Computer systems focused on the hardware aspects of computers. This includes architecture of computers, design of operating systems, distributed databases and data communication networks.
There are many supporting modules. Communication skills sharpened our written and oral English; Mathematics brought us concepts in discrete and business mathematics; while business foundations helped us to appreciate the possible uses of computer technology in commercial world.
Armed with knowledge in these three aspects of computers technology, we are ready to meet the challenges laid down ahead.
Our graduation examination results are marvellous: five of us received First Class Honour, 28 of us received Upper Second Class Honour and the rest are Lower Second Class. Isn't it good enough?
Remember the time we have spent in the library and project laboratory? We worked hard. Our hard work is not ignored by the others. The chart on the next page summarized the academic achievements of our classmates.
