Shrimp St. Thomas

Instrument: Trombone

Favorite Brass to the Future song: Pretty much anything in the repertoire, but especially the metal arrangements.

Background: Shrimp St. Thomas is the dashing bad boy of Brass to the Future. With his "too-cool-for-band" attitude, Shrimp makes sure that Brass to the Future maintains a cool edge seldom seen in other brass quintets. His skill with the trombone makes Shrimp a valuable asset to Brass to the Future's low brass squad. Shrimp also insists that every song played in a minor key must resolve to major on the final chord, which is no doubt his way of acknowledging the masterworks of J.S. Bach.

Shrimp is a graduate of the University of South Carolina Law School. His ears, finely tuned from years of playing in band and ensemble settings, perk up at the sound of ambulances in the distance.

Shrimp has played with the Aiken High School Wind Ensemble (Aiken, South Carolina) and the Aiken Community Band, and was a two-time South Carolina State Champ in the Church of God Teen Talent Competition, Small Instrumental Ensemble Division. One year he led the Grace Covenant Church of God (New Ellenton, South Carolina) Small Instrumental Ensemble in a rousing Canadian Brass arrangement that combined "When the Saints Go Marching In" and Handel's "Hallelujah" chorus. He also boasts that he was once "the eighth best high school trombone player in South Carolina," a claim based on his ranking one year in Region Band.
